Weird Ebay request

BigABigA Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭✭
So I get this message in my Ebay message inbox from a member that says he wants to return an 2006 20th Anniv. RP he bought from me "because it's yellow and the others he has are not".... whatever, no big deal....but he says it DOES look like the pics in the auction so it is up to me whether to refund his money...

That's not the weird part....

The weird part is that, yes, I did sell an RP a week ago, to a buyer in Calif. (positive feedback on both sides given) ...this message is from a member in Florida....who has never purchased anything from me. ...he has 100% feedback of 350

?????

Did someone go through the completed sales and just send me a refund request for something he doesn't have? How does he think he will get a refund if it will go to the real buyer through PayPal anyway???

I am choosing to either ignore it or pursue it with Ebay as a fraud potential ....leaning towards the ignore for now...until the next request anyway

    It's probably a fishing email.

I would call ebay and explain what is happening. Good luck!

I would send him a note saying that he must be confused. He bought it from someone else. My guess is honest mistake. I get notes all the time from past customers who contact me by grabbing one of my current auctions and sending me a note. I'll get a message on my 1997 PR70 plat and it is a guy I now telling me that he has something for sale or to check out an auction he just saw. This guy probably grabbed the wrong auction and made an honest mistake. --Jerry

Probably....but all questions I have received in the past referred to a specific item number and that's how the message always was sent "Joe X has a question regarding item #333333333". This was a message direct to me as a member. It was not a phishing email...very specific as to the product but did not include the auction number.

If it says item#33333... then that is the auction number. Check it out and if not a good number, then I would just drop a note to ebay and the op to let them know a mistake has been made, just to cover myself.

The #333333333 was used as an example of a normal message..sorry for the confusion

Well it's funny that the guy used the word "yellow"...Awhile back, I got a question from a buyer, can't remember the ID but he indicated he collects the RP's and wanted to know why the one I was selling was yellow? I thought he was making fun of my photos as it was most certainly not yellow...I told him to not bid on any of my auctions as I didn't appreciate his remarks...I then blocked him...

Anybody can go to a closed auction and send a message about it.

Exactly...but how would he be able to return a coin that he didn't purchase?? The cert. number would be different and the PP account would definitely be different.

Just weird.. I am in ignore mode right now...I'll see what his next step is.
