A Fool Proof Way to Get a Dealer's Attention
Lots of periodic bellyaching in this forum from high-maintenance collectors who feel dealers blow them off.
It only takes one simple thing to make a dealer never forget who you are.
Walk up to dealer and name the name of one of their secret clients.
In a recent episode, said dealer now greets me at every show & is always willing to talk shop. Amazing how that works.

<< <i>Wearing a ski mask into a B&M will get you a lot of attention as well.
Perhaps not positive attention
of the proper Coin-o-SOR-us (like "stegasaurus"). I was promptly shown the egress.

For some odd reason that reminds me of that stupid hippopotamus song they keep playing on the radio this time of year.
Even if I knew the secret collectors, I could never keep straight which one went with which dealer.
<< <i>I guess knowing secret clients is good, but I think the best way to get a dealer's attention is to have a successful transaction with him or her. >>
Nah. Doing a routine $1000 deal with a million dollar business will just fall through the weeds.
By far the best way I have experienced on both sides of the table.
You get a lot more bees with honey then you do with vinegar!

Let's just say that you needn't fear falling through the weeds with me in that scenario.

That's just not the case at all.

I owned a 0.1% share of a local privately-held company, and the only reason anyone in the company knew me was because I made a pest of myself at the stockholder's meetings. Otherwise I would have just been a name on a piece of paper.
If you are working a very busy coin show and someone you have never met, and will never meet again, walks up and does a 1-minute deal for a thousand dollar coin with a hundred dollar margin, there is no way you will remember that sale a year later.
I remember those stories from PCGS customer service when Ron Guth was company president. People at their table or over the phone would tell them they knew Ron Guth and Ron promised them this and that. Most often they couldn't correctly pronounce "Guth".
Authorized dealer for PCGS, PCGS Currency, NGC, NCS, PMG, CAC. Member of the PNG, ANA. Member dealer of CoinPlex and CCE/FACTS as "CH5"
<< <i>If you want to name-drop at least make sure you pronounce those names correctly.

Just so I do not make the same mistake when name-dropping, it is pronounced "Gooth", right?
<< <i>On a lighter note, I thought you were going to suggest plopping down a box of a dozen assorted donuts on the top of the dealer's showing cabinet. >>
: ) I was going to suggest corn dogs
