With all the metals skyrocketing and the earlier bust coinage going up in price quite a bit in the last several years coins are getting very expensive. My question is: Does anyone know of a chart that shows the price performance of coins, preferably a date by date chart. I thought I seen such a chart a few years ago.I like the old classic coins and I don't think they have all gone up so much, such as the reduced size bust quarters haven't went up but around 50% in the last 20 or 25 years I believe.

Otherwise you can argue about the data ad infinitum, because there is too much variability in buying/selling.
<< <i>The only data I believe is when a specific coin sells at auction on several occasions over a long period. Then subtract the cut the auction house gets.

I agree. Furthermore, there is the issue of inconsistent grading.
There are materials available, but I'm not convinced of their real utility. The Coin Dealer Newsletter has compilations of pricing data for 1980 - present available for purchase.
Bowers also edited a thick volume of price performance data: Bowers, QD/ The Coin Dealer’s Newsletter: A Study in Rare Coin Price Performance, 1963 - 1988.
