BigMoose enjoys torturing me with Morgan toners.....
OK Bigmoose is a great guy but at the recent Baltimore show I believe the comment was "I threw in some Morgans to the box". He knows I like Morgans but I did not expect what I saw next. Who just throws a toned 65DMPL in a box? This DMPL is fantastic and really got my attention. I think he strategically placed it at the end of the box to surprise me.

The other setup coins will appeal to others I am sure:

blu62vette, I knew you were partial to DMPLs so I placed the 1885 at the end to surprise you. I figured you would get a charge out of it as I certainly did when I was able to buy it. The 1885 came out of a Goldberg Auction, the Fairchild Family Trust Collection, in May, 2001. This coin was lot#966. Unfortunately, I was the underbidder and the coin disappeared for a while and then ended up with Adrian Crane who I believe sold it on ebay. I missed the ebay auction but a few months later it showed up again on ebay being sold by a fellow with the ebay handle Gr8Pyramid. I was upset at missing out on the coin twice and put in a stupid high max bid, but won the coin for less than what Adrian had sold it for on the bay. When I received the coin I was thrilled. I really should be in a 66DMPL holder as it is that clean with booming mirrors. The only disappointing thing about the coin is that it was in a PCGS "rattler" holder in the Goldberg Auction, but someone obviously sent it in for regrade and lost the rattler holder. The color on this 1885 is wonderful and you don't see true DMPLs very often with great color.
Coins #2 and 4 came out of the same Bryan Sonnier Capital Plastics board when he sold to Laura of Legend Numismatics. This board contained 5 coins, all red and green and all gems, and was very quickly bought by Bill Shamhart of Numismatic Americana. I spotted the coins as he was taking them out of the holder and getting them ready for a PCGS submission. Bill gave me first shot at any or all of them and I was able to pick out the two I liked most. Would have bought them all but I was not flush with cash at the time.
Coin #3 was also bought from Bill Shamhart after he salted it in a large box of his type coins I was looking at and I about fell out of my chair when I saw it! Have no idea of its provenance but I suspect it came out of the Continental Bank Hoard. TomT.

<< <i>bestclser1, I think AuroraBorealis now has the twin 1881-S in NGC 67*. I am convinced the he is eventually going to own all of them as I suspect he will outlast us all! TomT. >>
