JEfferson fans I need some input

Hey everyone

I was wondering if these look like 1941-S large MM coins? I have included what I think is small MM for comparison.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

All but the first picture are the large-S. I don't know what the current CPG says but the older editions vastly overestimated the rarity of this variety. There is a nice DDR on the large-S coins, if you can find one of those you have something truly special.

unless im confused, on the second pic I see a straight almost like underlying counterpunch on the mm? for
lack of better words, then maybe forth or fith pic showing some doubling or tripling on the MM

I don't know nickels and don't have the book (CPG) for them, but the first coin is definitely a different style MM than the rest.

    Frank,

The first one is not "The" Inverted S in the Complete Varieties, but could it be an inverted S? I think I have other inverted S's, with the S in different positions. My guess would be that flipping the S upsidedown would/could happen often. One of these days we'll have to pull together a study of the various regular 1941-S's and see if we can establish what the serifs should look like on the top and bottom. Then we would be able to better identify whether an S in inverted.

    Catch you soon.

Like the others have pointed out, all are the Large S except the first one. In my experience, it is easier to identify the Large "S" when you crop the photos all in the same size including the same boundaries. Here are 3 photos of S mintmarks for Jefferson Nickels. The first is pre-41, second 41 Large S, third post 45.

Of course, you can also attribute the Large "S" by the triangular bottom serif which is unique to the 41 Large "S" mintmark.

Looks very nice like this yup,yup the 1st one no on the lg"S" and not a invert "S" but all the rest are LG "S"s. The invert "S" is closer to the steps below.

    Hoard the keys.
