MS or PR 70 Coins

If a PR70 or MS70 coin has shiny spots (like 1 or 2) does it matter to you? Wondering if it is even an issue if PCGS certified them to be 70s.

    It would matter to me.
I want my 70 coin to be perfect.

A 70 coin should have no spots and be perfect. If you see one that has spots they may have formed after the coin was graded and is no longer deserving of the 70 grade.

  • Spots, haze, yellowing, etc. bother me on a 69. Intolerable on a 70.

"Shiney Spots" don't form on a coin after its graded. Milk Spots do but not shiney spots. Shiney Spots represent a break or wearing away of the artificial frosting on a proof or ms die and may or may not keep the coin out of the 70 holder.

I'm of the opinion that these "shiney frost breaks" should keep the coin from the 70 grade and it is possible that someone missed it but then, thats why PCGS has the grade guarantee in place.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • If it has those issues it is not a 70.
  • I'm not hung up on, nor do I support or encourage, the MS/PR 70 frenzy. It's a fad, which is slowly fading away.

I don't buy moderns unless for resale, so a 70 with spots doesn't mean much to me because none of the coins I own are ever gonna be a 70 on the grading scale highest maybe a 68. If I did though it would probably bother me I always look at my coins later and wish they were perfect.
