I managed to get mine to work Rather severe limitations on size/dimensions which are impressively difficult to overcome with common image formats. It looks like the Photoshop GIF format worked best, set with 256 colors that came out better than I thought it would and no interlacing to shave off a few bytes. A JPEG would have required a further reduction in quality or size, and PNGs didn't stand a chance for the 10KB limitation.
I'm a software architect and I focus heavily on highly optimized, low-overhead software (even in today's high powered computers) so this was actually a rather enjoyable experience!

I have no idea what your talking about but respect it never the less.
Do you have larger images of both sides that you're willing to share??

You bring up a great point Syl.
Do NOT under any circumstances even so much as look at your profile if you have uploaded a new avatar/author icon. (O.K. I exaggerate - maybe you could peek if you're the peeking type )
You need to wait until it's included in the roster or bank of avatars and that can take more than a few weeks and less than a complete election cycle.

Thanks! These aren't the best pictures of it but at least they're > 100x100 I do plan on imaging it again once I get a proper camera setup: it's a 1797 $10 Small Eagle. It's one of my favorites just because of how hard they are to find:

How often does new avatar day come along? I'm on a Mac and apparently I don't get the thing-a-ma-jig at the bottom of the profile page to upload a new avatar. I tried Firefox without any luck. So I'd like to make sure a get to a pc next time new avatar day happens. Is there a set schedule for NAD?

Okay, in that case, it's highly likely I stole it from a past post you made.

Of course I'll go back to the old default eventually, but I like to periodically switch 'em up a bit- keep folks on their toes, y'know.
