I've noticed PCGS taking some photos of the coins for the coinfacts that would surface sometimes a few months after the submission is back. I recommend checking your certificate numbers in the look-up periodically. I've found quite a few of my world coins imaged without having been asked for a consent.
Gorgeous 8 Escudos, btw. Love the original gold patina.

Here's one that already had a CoinFacts photo when I bought it. I have now begun checking for existing PCGS photos on coins that I'm considering for purchase. IMO, there's definitely added value for coins with a high quality photo.
This particular 1841-D half eagle is a rare die variety, the Tall D, of which only 14 which have been graded by PCGS (in all grades). It was formerly in the collections of Harry Bass and Alex Shuford.
Question for you guys, I like the Truview image since its high quality with good lighting but I'm not so hot on the PCGS background. I'd like to do some Photoshop magic and crop out the coins and use them on my own background. Since I own the coin, I should be able to do what I want with the picture right? I know that photography rights are very protected though, so I wanted to get your thoughts. Has PCGS ever gotten angry at anyone for doing this? If this has already been discussed ad nauseam, please forgive me.
That happened to me once with a Matte Proof Lincoln.
I was bird-dogging a MPL for Robec, then Robec found the coin in question had a TrueView the seller did not know about. When Robec passed on the coin, I ended up buying it.

No, I was adding the cert number to "my inventory" in the registry, and the photo popped up.

Had an additional surprise when I found it on Coin Facts.
