Good Job to PCGS

A while back (April), I bought a 1916-D Dime XF-40. It was in a PCGS holder. The transaction was based on a purchase on ebay. When I received it, something didn't look right. After spending a lot of money (for me), I sent it to pcgs to make sure it was real. Unfortunately, it was not - neither was the holder. They sent it back to me and etched "FAKE" on the slab. I sincerely appreciated their effort to protect me and, ultimately more important, the hobby.
I got a call this morning from an unknown number. When I checked my voicemail, it was an agent from the United States Secret Service. We had a great discussion. I gave him all the information of the ebay seller - addresses, paypal info, email.... The agent is working diligently to take this guy down.
I am impressed with pcgs taking this seriously. This protects the hobby and makes the community a more trustworthy place. Although taking one person down will not protect against fakes, it sends a loud, clear message.

Perhaps you could donate the bogus slab to the ANA for their counterfeit detection classes.

yep
to the american people
and that message is as follows:
regardless of how many people we lock up, we will need to increase tax rates and/or allocate significant portions of current
tax dollars to accommodate the need to build more prisons to house the ever-increasing number of
serious offenders where punishments are only befitted by issuing sentences with a minimum of 10-20 years
and to fund the payroll for employees traveling from other states with little to no training and anyone willing may apply
and most likely get the job, including but not excluded to 85 pound women and teens whom would be blown over if a stiff
breeze were to blow the wrong way with duties including but not excluded to monitoring prisoners in confined environments
where the inmates outnumber the guards 75 to 1, and most of these funds being procured from tax monies collected from the american people
whom work hard for their money will ultimately be used to pay over-inflated committee member's salaries and bonuses leaving scarcely enough
to build efficient, low maintenance, self sustaining facilities with salaries commensurate with the job risk with little to no health benefits as well as,
i will not go on

a very strong presumption the seller even knew
let alone the fact they would inform you/tip you off that the seller is on their radar
without having first verified you were not part of the scheme IF in fact the seller was part of a possible scheme
.
interesting reading to be sure

Promise?
It may well be that the seller of the fake bought it from some other source and was another victim in the game of hot potato. I'm sure that more than a few that buy a fake, try pass the fake, until someone gets stuck. I would guess that there are millions of dollars in value of fakes being moved every month on Ebay. Like, I said it is scary out there. Some venues have worse odds than others.

i promise to not go on
BUT
i do not promise if my fingers are crossed or not :-P
.
(I for one probably wouldn't be able to tell a fake slab...)
