Can this be done.................

I have a very large Bronze Medal from 1893 Columbian Expo that some idiot lacquered. My question is..........can I use Acetone to remove the lacquer without harm to the color of the patina on the medal ?

"Yes" -- with the BIG caveat that you have no idea what the patina looks like, underneath the lacquer. You won't harm the patina... but you might not like the patina that's under the lacquer to start with...

Yep. I'd leave it alone unless it's ugly like it is.
If that's the case it won't matter much.

Not necessarily an idiot...most of the damage from laquering is done by idiots trying to remove it improperly. I once watched an idiot dealer remove it with an abrasive cloth from what might have been a CC large cent. image

Never gave that a thought ....however the lacquer is broken up (dried out) and needs removed. The patina is a dark walnut brown. Just discovered my camera is without battery power. Hopefully I'll have pics soon.

If it's dry and cracked, then yes, remove it. Probably won't be worse without it.....probably.image

i purchased power adapters for my cameras as the frustration of dead batteries was too much to handle considering the small cost of the adapters
