Kudos to illini420

A few days ago I ordered a couple of coins off the B/S/T from illini420. No big deal ... it was a routine purchase for some nice, but not too expensive coins. After a short period I tracked that the coins arrived and went to check the PO Box. I opened the box and ... the package was body-bagged by the USPS! Oh no ... the front of the padded mailer was torn. I figured it got "damaged" and the coins were probably gone. Geez! How am I going to deal with this? There was delivery confirmation of the package, but not the contents (and the coins were really not worth insuring). It was my first purchase from Mike and it apparently has gone south.
I open the body-bag and it felt like something was in there. Cool ... there was something there. Here's where the kudos go to Mike (illini420). He packaged the two small slabs inside a cardboard holder inside a small bubble mailer inside the outer (damaged) bubble mailer! Even though the rip was large on the outside container, nothing escaped. Had Mike given the same lack of attention many of our eBay sellers do, the slabs would have bounced there way to the opening and likely been lost along the way.
Mike ... thanks for making the extra effort to package the coins so carefully ... it mattered. Sure, I could have send you a PM ... but I thought a public thanks was better!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
You can only be over protective on uninsured shipments

I remember once that I got a neutral from a buyer that complained that my packing
was overkill and too hard to get to the coin!
Can't win them all!

we have not sealed a deal yet, but good to know some people can still prepare a package knowing excatly how it will travel.
I buy a ton of coins online through the BST and eBay, probably too many! Nothing irks me more than getting a cheap bubble mailer with just a loose slab inside. I've also received a few damaged slabs because of poor packaging. Buying lots of coins also leaves me with lots of used cardboard mailers and bubble mailers that I like to recycle in packing coins that I send out. Sometimes in packing up coins I think I'm being paranoid about needing to protecting the coin so much... I guess not!!!
Although the packaging got destroyed, glad the coins made it

I have, like he posted just above me, learned a bit in receiving coins over the years, so when I send out, I try to make sure I don't make the same mistakes.
I try to do what Mike does as well, but I have added 2 additional steps that I try to do...
1) When I put the coin inside the cardboard, with some bubblewrap usually, then inside the bubble-envelope, I tape the flap (even though it is adhesive closed) with the paper-tape one uses for registered mail.
2) I use a slip or 2 of that same tape and tape the back center a couple of inches up and a couple across. Kind of like a cross.
Reason I do the 2 above things is because I have only had 1 coin lost being sent to me and that was where a perfect slit was made in the back middle and the coin (1 of 2 in the package) was removed. A very nice (from the pictures) 1855 large cent
The tape across the flap is because I have seen some of the adhesives not be as sticky, or part of the flap sticks up, the flap is easy to carefully pull open, etc.
Most of what I ship, since I am primarily a buyer, are flips or expensive things that I send registered, so I have gotten into the security habit.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

He has also alerted me to a few coins I was looking for that he happened to run across. That's what these boards are great for!!
