I like Laura and enjoy reading her market reports. Posting them here often stimulates interesting coin discussion.

Laura is just fine in my book. I like her articles and her coins too (the ones I can afford that is).

As a collector of modern crap dreck, I see Laura selling to the 1% and really not caring about us unwashed masses!! Maybe the OWS people should take up camping out in her parking lot! image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

<< <i>That problem: there is too much dreck in the market place. >>

Here is where I agree. It's hard to justify paying so much for rarity when dreck can be had at a fraction of the price, and few outside the circles of numis-mania can even tell the difference.

    Here is my solution:

    Buy up all the dreck...

    AND MELT IT!!!!!!!!

<< <i>Another thing I find offensive is Queen Laura's attitude towards those of us who either do not or can not spend tens of thousands of dollars on her super high grade inventory. If some of us spend $150 on a nice looking rattler ms-65 morgan dollar she labels it dreck, but if we were to go on her site and spend $20,000 on a PCGS MS-66 seated half dime she would crow that we just won the lottery. In reality we would probably not get back 50-60% of our "investment" if we sold the coin so please give me a big serving of "dreck" over a big serving of finest known full blown over retail coins.imageimage >>

If your nice looking rattler MS65 dollar is nice for the grade/PQ, then it is not dreck.

It is odd here that so many of you cannot achieve an understanding of what is a basic term.

    JBN to the rescue!

$150 MS 65 Morgans are not dreck if they are nice for their grade. $150 MS 65 Morgans that are low end for the grade can be dreck. For the same $150 what would you rather have? That is the message. Some folks just don't want to hear it.

So called-dreck selling for a fraction of the price of a true gem is not a problem. Not everyone can afford to pay for true gems, and some who can afford it might not feel that the difference in quality is worth a huge leap in price. I do not think that even Laura objects to dreck selling cheaply if properly graded. I believe her gripe is when dreck coins wind up in the same graded holder as the true gem and the auction records then reflect coins in gem grade holders selling for weak prices which implies that the "true gem" coin is only worth that much as well since it is the same grade holder. The collectors who get burned in that situation are those that pay gem prices for coins that are dreck. And the higher the grade, the easier it is for the market to quibble about the coin not justifying the grade on the holder.

hasn't anyone noticed laura sold two huge collections of coins where the prices ranged from $100-$1,000.00 this year??? I bought a few of the coins and they were incredible. what JBN said seems to be spot on.

some people here display too much petty jealousy.

I get $25.00 per review of Legends articles! image

<< <i>For the life of us, even though we have friends who are the top collectors and dealers of comic books, we could never understand how they justify and sustain value.
