    Nice Jeffies,
I have no pics to share, but enjoy collecting the series in nice MS for a Dansco album.
One regret I have is that I will probably not live long enough for this series to be truely rare, but it's still fun.

This is my description of the coin in my registry set:

A striking coin with incredible luster and superb surfaces under a dove grey and champagne rose iridescence.

I consider the obverse photo the best I have ever taken which is why I use it as my avatar.

That is a hammered strike. I wanted to see what your coin would look like shrunk down a bit.

    image

What kind of light are you using in your photography that is leaving that blue cast on the coin? Might want to switch to Reveal or fluorescent bulbs.

And while the strike is amazing, the die polish that exists both in the fields and devices is phenomenal. I guess that dispels the myth that someone has been spreading on another forum. Thanks for providing a great example!

The Appalachians are fantastic coins. While not always the best strike or surfaces, they usually have great luster and the eye appeal is off the charts. Here is a pink & gold one similar to yours.

    Hey Larry,

For a 1954-S, that might be considered a good strike. image

LOL. I know exactly who you're talking about, and I noticed that too.

On a more serious note, that '54-S is just a horrible strike. It came out of a box I pulled several other older BU's out, all had crappy strikes, but that was by far the most egregious example. The best strikes I own would be '87's, they just seem to come hammered.

Wow, an MS67 with peach, lavender, and ice blue toning. Superb!

And I find nothing wrong with the strike despite the fact that the steps are not full.

    A wonderful Jefferson!

The 1983 coins come nice like that since the US Mint made new master hubs in 1982. But try finding a 1985 or 1986 coins that resemble that strike. The Analyst gives some insight on how the hubs were re-engraved in 1986. Then suddenly the 1987 came with deep bowl-like strikes. 1988 are more flat and the 1989 gets weak into 1991. Every 3-4 years it appears, due to the volume of coins that were made, they were always doing something to improve the strike. (oh, there's that dirty word again)

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Has some weakness in central obverse and reverse which keeps it out of a 67 holder.

Well, unlike some of our strike conscious collecting comrades, Eye Appeal is king in my book and that coin is about as nice as a 39-D gets. BRAVO!

What would it cost to dig up this $60,000 coin? I'm sure those who are involved have records of when their trash
went out. And the landfill would know what area that particular trash for that week was buried.
But wait! Don't they run all their trash through a metal detector before it leaves the building?
Or worst yet, isn't all cardboard recycled? Do the recyclers have metal detection devices in place as well?
How many coins show up at the recycling facilities? That is an interesting question, no? image
