.
I was doing a bit more research on this little guy in Breen's "encyclopedia" and "early large cents" books and one had a picture for the slot of the S-79 that looked xf+ and the other has an image that is vf but does not show the edge

anyone else see this and think wtf
.
I have images of the 7 of 8 known with a possible 2 wild cards out there

obviously with the finest known as VG10 selling in the DH sale for over a mil, seeing these images is quite unsettling
.
comments,facts,opnions welcome

While I don't know the series or this particular die marriage, the authors of each book may have found other die marriages which used the same obverse and reverse as the S-79 and married the images together in the book to give a better picture of what some of the better details may be for this die marriage in order for more people to more easily ID this die marriage. But when you bring up the aspect of the edge and its importance for this die marriage, I cannot answer why this feature was absent in either book!

    .
that is virtually the exact self-explanation that i thought of as well

since i am not an expert as to the features of this die pairing by memory (minus the edge of course) i guess the next thing to do is attribute those images from the books against the 7 images i have

i guess i was just looking to see if someone else would think of some simple explanation that i was missing since more minds are better than 1

    thanks

i'm glad you brought this up stone. i just confirmed (based on others writings) that this obverse is not shared by any other known large cent. The reverse is shared by a few other marriages. This fact alone states that the example in breens catalog is an S-79 and also that I confirm it is the ANS coin from the damage from the reverse side.

glad to see people contribute and just goes to show what diggin' through the archives can do. ty
