Can't they just POOF the comment rather than the whole 5,000 posts?

That's a real shame if that's why. Why not just remove the offending post or posts? That thread had a lot of information so hopefully it comes back in an edited form.

actually, I think they can. Or at the very least edit out the comment and ban the author

    Wow...
they deleted a 5k post thread that had hundreds of members involved because one person said something?

  • BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,789 ✭✭✭✭✭
    That's a big shame.
The person who posted that should be poofed.
From the PCGS/moderator side, it is easier to poof a thread than just a post or two (imagine trying to comb the 4300+ post thread for a few errant comments if you haven't been keeping up with the thread.....) but it did have a lot of useful info and, ultimately, I think that info helps(ed) PCGS as people were able to submit in a more intelligent fashion without bugging PCGS customer service as much (I know it helped me).

they may not be aware of this possibility, or may not care to use it. poofing an entire thread does send a message.

    altough an unclear one.

I had no idea it was poofed as I hadn't check it for a few days (quality time).... so I also had no idea why it went poof.

the option of editing the comment to "questions about PCGS grading integrity will not be tolerated, duh. This author is banned. yours, moderators" is preferred by me.

I think he was poofed an then came back and posted again. At least it looked to be that way. Someone with one post started a Mr Willis with all due respect post after Don responded to the original ignorant post.

It was there as recently as 15 minutes ago.

And I wasn't seeing any obviously inflammatory or outrageous comments (at least by our usual standards).

I think the last remark I saw generically asked if Mint standards had risen or grading standards had declined (to account for all the 70s).

OK...and if this is the case, hasn't that information been made public previously on a limited basis depending on the coin(s) in question?

Specifically, I'm thinking back to the 2008 (buy this coin now before it's too late), type threads.

Some lucky person put on the wait list will get mine. Mine had a ship date of 11/28. Today (11/28) I get an email saying ship date is now 12/12. I'm canceling, don't want to wait over and over. If these can't all be ready to ship on the sell date then why sell it?

I did not see any of the incendiary remarks, so I cannot comment on them. While there was a lot of great information in that thread, the odds of actually finding what you want from it, because of its size, was pretty slim. It would be like looking something up in a reference manual without an index. Additionally, a lot of the information became outdated over time. Perhaps it became a sort of mascot for the forum for those who were interested in the 25th Anniversary sets.

Why not start another thread, more focused on the matter at hand (which appears to be the grading of the coins) and avoid obvious sensitive areas?

And I am just about to get my set (I hope!) and I had made my first post to the thread. No not the one that got the bomb dropped on it. And yes, they can delete individual posts if they want. As already mentioned that might be a monumental job in this case.

Makes one wonder....are you an alt of someone who has been banned, or just ignorant as to the rules listed and stickied or common sense when you are discussing someone's business, particularly on their own site?

You may not care for most of the info around here, and the threads, but some of us do.

Wow, 5000 posts with...say 3 minutes each to compose... is 250 HOURS of our collective time to write these posts. Where can you get 250 hours of writing done by experienced professionals and collectors added to the commons for FREE. That's a huge valuable resource of knowlege that PCGS has just placed a value of $0.

became a useless thread primarily hijacked by new flippers looking for answers that they were too lazy to look up themselves. Curious as to how many of them will stick around and discuss/learn about U.S. coins.

  • The "With all due respect" post that we though caused the poof is still in this thread. I don't recall what got posted to the big thread before it got poofed.

Seven ASE 25th Anniversary submission results from the PCGS Shared Orders page. Your comments will be of interest!

There is no debate, rebuttal, appeal or otherwise dislike for the removal of a thread, post or a poster. It is very simply put by our host and that is that. PERIOD...end of story.

Rule 1) This is not a public forum. This is a PCGS forum paid for by PCGS and provided for PCGS customers to exchange information regarding collecting US coins. We make the rules this is not a democracy.

Rule 2) Anyone posting crude or vulgar pictures or language will no longer be allowed to post. No more warnings.

Rule 3) Anyone attacking another poster or making disparaging personal remarks will no longer be allowed to post. No more warnings.

Rule 4) Anyone making libelous remarks concerning any individual, any company, or any other entity will no longer be allowed to post. No more warnings.

Rule 5) If you have nothing to contribute to an OP then do not post. Snide remarks and other negative comments will result in your losing your ability to post. No more warnings.

Rule 6) This forum is about US Coins. If your post is not directly related to US Coins then this is the wrong forum. Do not post it or your posting privileges may be removed.

Rule 7) This is a PCGS forum. Posts promoting or bashing other grading companies or service are not allowed. Those posts will be removed and your posting privileges may be removed as well.

Rule 8) This forum is provided for the education and sharing of information. Not as a personal soapbox. If you want to learn and share information about US Coins you are welcome.

Agreed, and I, for one, was impressed with how patiently you helped a lot of them. I tried. I really really really did. But when it is very obvious that they are only here to take info and flip, and not here to be a part of the forum or to look for anything on their own, I have to admit that I gave up on them. You were much more patient.

I think one "recycled" board member put in almost 500 posts by himself in that thread, with his new ID.

The information in that thread, I felt, was great.
    The hype, was not.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Please dont take me as throwing fuel on the fire for I am not. It just makes one wonder why not just leave it! I grew up being told if you tell the truth you have NOTHING TO HIDE!!!! It just seems fishey the way it ended. People have a right to there opinion but if you call someone out there should always be FACTS not hearsay and thats why I am not calling anyone out no will I.

As for me being a banned member with a NEW name... WRONG. I have been a lurker for close to 2 years but when the 25th Silver eagle sets came out I had to join and now I wish to remain a VOCAL member even after the hype of these sets die down. I have been in the coin hobbie since I was 5 and my father worked at the US MINT a number of years!!! So PLEASE DONT CALL ME OUT when I did nothing wrong
  • I found the thread to be a good place for information and updates. It will be a shame if they don't bring it back. They could have just admonished the offending poster. I think there were some comments regarding grades being favored to dealers, but that is hogwash. Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Well, I did just what you were saying, and I just got my numbers back, online, this morning:
    1 68 4%
    16 69 64%
    8 70 32%

Vast majority of the 70s were the RP. None of my PR-DCAM were 70, nor the "S" mintmarked coin image

So, not sure if that is a reasonable expectation or not, as they were (obviously) sent in sealed.

I did get 1 set of consecutive numbers for a 69 graded set. Not sure if that is cool or not image
