2000 5 ounce ATB's

So was buying all those ATB's worth the money or just a big money pit?

You mean the 2010's? It depends on what you mean by "worth the money". I think that it was.

I think you need to ask two different questions:

    1) Who here bought as many ATB sets as they could from the AP's for melt.
    and
    2) Who here chased the sets and pursued 'dmpl' coins on the secondary market?

I'm not kidding myself by thinking the ATB's are going to be the hottest thing around at some point down the road, but they may become popular at some point in the distant future. As such I'm still buying whenever the premiums to melt make sense. Either I'm going to do well in 20 or 30 years based on numi value, or I'm going to do well based on silver spot since I buy as close to spot as possible. Either way that's a win so I'm still buying image.

The earlier you dumped them the better you did.

If you got them at melt, you're doing OK, but these things aren't exactly too liquid right now based on my observations, so if you're trying to part with them at this moment in time, yes they are a bit of a pit.

What is unfortunate is how many folks were completely turned off from this series by all of the unscrupulous actions by various APs.

Amen to that! To say the ATB's were a fiasco is possibly the understatement of the year. Speaking of ATB's have you guys seen the main page over at MCM today? They're selling slabbed 2010-P GC coins (27,000 mintage) for roughly 15% over melt at $199ea. That's a very good buy for those willing to sit on them for quite some time.

money pit so far except for the SP70s, MS69DMPLs and the light finish coins, and the 2010s were a great flip.

Cant be a money pit if the sets I have were all free!

You had to work hard NOT to make out on this cluster.

    I'm talking long-term holds.

the short term flips have been good.

I bought a PCGS FS 67 DMPL Gettysburg for Melt so I think it is a decent enough buy. I do think that these will fall falt on their face the second silver takes a big dip but the they are terrific long term holds. Just looks like the kind of thing people will collect 100 years form now after a few booms and melts.

I like the things-- I think the P collector versions are worth the premium. Every time I wonder if I wasted my money on the Yosemite I have I hold the thing in my hands. It's awesome. Even non-collectors are impressed.

I bought from 6 of the ap's and traded most of them until I came up with 69 DMPL's but now I see them dipping in price. I also bought a set of

MS 69 DMPL 2011's which sure are not setting the world on fire. I probably have $4000 invested in these pucks at this point and know I could

not possibly get my money back right now. Maybe in the future! Glad I made up for it with the 25th anniversary sets.

Those 25th sets are great bailouts. I was doing OK on the ATBs until I bought some Olympic 69DMPLs on the secondary market too early. OUCH...You live and learn. I am still pretty new at this game....so I take this as a learning experience more than anything.

The "P" coins are pretty sweet....underrated IMO. The GC in particular. Wow! No other coin the USM produced today matches the relief on these suckers. Hold Mount Hood at an angle. Holy cow!

These are best longer term holds at this point I think. Shades of 2008 with the PM markets right now...hopefully a boost later.

Geez, and I bought one of the last raw 2010 sets in the multi sleeve package from Jeffries in SEPT, 2011 when SLV was $42, $1250 spot for the set.

Margin hikes / international economies are killing me, but let's see where we are at three years from now.

Spot closed @ $30.98 today = $774.50 for 25 oz, $ 925 into my ATB last of the raw sets from Jeffries, I need the crazy physical holding vs paper spot price to stop.

    Sooner or later it will.

image Sitting on four sets 3 of which not in holders beautiful, but after the drop figured theres no point in grading them and took a hard hit on the P pucks like others all 68's . Thats why most of us moved on to the 25th anniversary set , learned alot from the 2010 fiasco and theres a few places I would not buy anything from that really ruined the fun. But like others I have won some and lost some and in the end you just hope it all evens out. Enjoy image

I did not like the "P" pucks so the only ones I bought got sold as soon as they arrived unopened. Lucked out on that one I guess. I was going

to try for a complete set of bullion in MS 69 DMPL but am rethinking that one.

These are definitely not as liquid as the ASEs for stacking. Some APs don't want to buy them back, not even at melt. Hopefully, now the mint will guess the demand for these and mintages of the bullion will drop dratmatically. Right now I am in for a total of 250 ounces of these in P and bullion versions so far. Perhaps the only savior will be $60 ounce silver for these.

Are they refusing to honor their buy prices?

I know they have to have a buy back price published, and I'd think not honoring that buy back price would be a rules violation.

Not all APs will buy them back. One AP would not buy back some of my 2010 bullion pucks that I know of.

I bet they'd be willing to sell you a few sets though from their cherrypucked stock. image

The way this thread is going, it sounds like the Pucks are going to be on the "sell" list for awhile. OTOH, somebody, somewhere - has got to be collecting these. Right?image

I think we are just going to have to wait these things out and see where they go.

Count me in. Complete bullion and "P" to date, and I intend to complete the series. They're my reward for quitting smoking and look a lot more attractive than a pile of ashes and butts!

Good for you! I don't think I will live long enough to collect the whole series but will try to get the bullion series as long as I can. My grandkids can have them when I am done.

I wish these were one ounce instead of five. One ounce I'd collect regardless of how they were performing. With five, it hurts when they underperform, and they take up so much space.

The congressperson who sponsored the bill for the five-ounce coin (I think he was from a silver mining state) should be tarred and feathered.
