What do you do when you flip a hot modern issue?

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,790 ✭✭✭✭✭
For me, I am looking at the CRO site and drooling right now....
I may have to use some of the 25th annv flip funds to pay for a few things around the house, but, damn, I gotta admit I am looking at those pine tree examples or maybe that 1793 cent.....

ARGH! CRO....YOU ARE KILLING ME!!!!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

(I pay mine off each month...and have for at least 8 years and plan to keep them that way....debt free except the house and monthly accrued debt (child care, utilities, etc))

    Great topic!!

I use some to pay for a few keepers of whatever hot modern issue I bought, some to buy classic coins and currency and some to add to my firearms collection/go to shooting schools.

Edited to add: Modern haters take note: In just these few posts it is apparent that some, if not many, modern flippers buy classics with the proceeds. This all the more reason the I don't get the modern haters. We add interest and money to the classics hobby.

The ASEs are certainly getting a lot of exposure here. PCGS has let everyone know they're ready to grade them. It won't be long before everyone can sell their newfound products on ebay and reap the rewards. image

Profits are used to keep the business afloat by purchasing more inventory. Modern or classic doesn't mattter. I bought an '89 CC Morgan just yesterday for $450. The guy would not sell for any lower. It's probably a VG 10. Not quite a "fine". One little ding in the obverse rim is noticeable, but otherwise it's a fairly decent collectible coin.

One thing I don't do is "hate" anyone or anything regarding coins. Flipping is part of the game and I'm happy for guys who know how to make a buck. And for guys who know how to turn silver into gold : I'm hiring.

With the 2010 ATB 5oz coins I kept a set for myself free of charge, put funds aside for the 2010 "P" versions, then acquired a couple of very nice proof Kennedy Halves that I needed to complete a major set.

With these 25th ASE sets, I plan on getting a quality 12 piece gold type set started. That process will start with researching which of the components have dived the most in price over the last 3-5 years (in desirable grades) then seeing what's out there. Buy low, sell high.

I pull a bill or two off my stack of hundreds and use it to light a cigar as I sip a fine spirit by the fireplace.

Actually, it's all going into savings, like nearly every other cent I make that doesn't get converted into rent, food, or fuel.

    Leon,

I haven't flipped anything yet....still waiting on delivery. And, I doubt it will be enough for that, but it could be a nice chunk of it, eh? image
More than likely, housing needs will come first and then I will siphon part of it into the coin funds.....but I did want to know what others do with theirs, since I think it is cool to possibly have an opportunity to buy some, get some free, and still have some money left over to buy some more fun image

You folks really hype up new issues here and I end up buying one or two more than I need, thinking I'll flip them for profit. My flipping is more like flopping (sound like a certain Republican candidate for president?). I've ended up with one or two extra sets of certain issues in my collection, just waiting for the the price of them to come down so that I can sell them (much like my bullion exercises). I'm not biting your hype anymore and am now buying sets just for my collection so that my heirs can sell them. So there!!

Amen! I'm thinking of flipping into a PCGS PR68 1995 W SAE proof-- no way I could justify the price otherwise.

Convert it to gold/silver bullion. Then later convert some bullion to the next hot issue. Works like compounded interest. 10k five years ago now >400K.
