I believe he simply goes by "charlie" and he does frequent the Sports Card forums more than the coins.

<< <i>The Graders would be the only one to touch the raw coin. >>

That statement is in direct contravention to what I know to be true. The slabber also handles the coin.

    PS:

    dakra,

Why are you still wasting your time with this Annabelle person?

    I'm a little confused here.
You don't like the service you're getting yet you continue to send them coins? Why?
Maybe you can clear things up.

    dakra,

Unfortunately, I don't think you're ever going to get anyone at PCGS to openly admit that someone there is fingerprinting poeples coins among other things. If they did, they would immediatly have about 25000 PCGS graded fingerprinted coins in their PO box that they would then have to deal with. I think we all know the truth on what is really happeneing though.

BTW......this problem only came about within the last year or two, it was nearly unheard of before that time to my knowledge. Did collectors and dealers just suddenly start fingerprinting their coins prior to submission recently???

    David,

You will find that Charlie is genuinely interested in customer service. He can't always achieve the exact result we would like, but he will bust his butt trying.

just received the PCGS brochure (still waiting on my submission kit.) On page 7, section 2 "The Grading Room," there's a picture of a grader holding a $20 gold piece with bare hands. I know a lot of people flamed NGC after that one TV program on the US mint (revisionist history channel, I think it was) so thought this deserved mention too. Personally, doesn't really bother me, if they'd just wash their hands occasionally.

I have always heard the graders use bare hands. But they also know how to handle the coins. The fingerprints happen later. Many of these coins could not receive the grade they have if they were printed, so the grading process must have already happened.

Maybe PCGS could fingerprint their employees and post scans on their website. Then, if you later discover a match between the posted print and your coin, you could resubmit to have it reholdered (at no charge of course) with a new label bearing the signature of the offending printer....you know, kind of like that coin artist signature thing. They sold at a premium, didn't they? image
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

    I Still Love PCGS....

...okay... we will see what happens. I hope to report that it was Miraculous Customer Service.... or I might have to edit all of these messages again.

Russ... I got in contact with a few people but Charlie is handling the situation. I'm just hoping that things will work out fine. I will say this though, I have a bunch of coins I was going to send in but figured for my own peace of mind, I placed them in flips, sealed them in a box, had them in the car with me tonight and will do so for the next week. (to simulate how PCGS might receive my coins) I don't anticipate anything out of the ordinary but atleast this way I know that the flips or the weather did not cause any problems. This way, if I send them in and there are any problems, I know it wasn't on my end.

    Thanks again Russ!

I have wondered if you put something in the cargo area of a airplane is that area the same as the cabin as far as temperature and air pressure?

    David,

I think that's a good idea. I've had more then my share of proofs develop hazing and gunk problems that had nothing to do with PCGS. I'm running tests with various packaging right now to try and zero in on the cause of the problem. The only thing I've been able to determine so far is that non-dipped coins are far more likely to haze over then dipped ones.

I have a couple submissions on the way back right now that I'm anxiously awaiting to see if any haze grew while they were in.
