The man hails from his rambling estate in the pastoral greenery of Connecticut. But I'll bet he has never fondled the Mitchelson collection, or even gazed longingly at it.

For those who don't know, the Mitchelson is an institutional collection held by the Connecticut State Library which has important patterns and lots of other goodies. It was put together c. 1900 by a well-heeled collector.

This is not how Longacre looks at coins.
He is used to QDB coming out with white gloves and a velvet tray and regaling him with stories of the coin trade while Longacre freely looks at whatever he wants, and pulls out a few of his own coins to remind himself how much better his coins are than the ones he is looking at. QDB fetches all the uncatalogued auction consignments for Longacre's perusal while Longacre's personal secretary is giving directions to HRH about which numbers to put on his coins.
