eBay Bucks Update - Bullion

As always, eBay is committed to bringing you amazing deals on gold and silver. However, to do so, we can no longer offer eBay Bucks for purchases from the Bullion category within Coins & Paper Money. This change will take effect October 1, 2011. To learn more about earning and redeeming eBay Bucks, visit the Frequently Asked Questions page. And remember that you can always tell whether an item qualifies for eBay Bucks by looking for the earn amount below the price on the item description page.

To review the updated eBay Bucks Terms & Conditions, please visit eBay Bucks Update.

We appreciate your eBay Bucks membership and hope you'll continue to enjoy the benefits provided by the eBay Bullion Center, including great savings and fast, free shipping from Featured Sellers—and eBay Buyer Protection for your purchases.

Sincerely,

Just got that email. Better start listing your silver and gold bullion in a different but relatable category, I guess?

Carnival Rube Hey honey, let's see how good this guy is. What'd I win?
Navin Uh, anything in this general area right in here. Anything below the stereo and on this side of the bicentennial glasses. Anything between the ashtrays and the thimble. Anything in this three inches right in here in this area. That includes the Chiclets, but not the erasers.

Doesn't Ebay make the same percentage in final fees for bullion as they do other collectable categories?

If Ebay is cutting out the Ebay Bucks for Bullion I would expect the FVF rate for a new bullion category to be lower. Then again this is Ebay we are talking about here isn't it.

If you're a seller just figure out another legit category to list in. It might make the difference on a sale or not. I will be searching for my bullion purchases in non-bullion categories.

I simply do not understand how eBay could posibly state: "eBay is committed to bringing you amazing deals on gold and silver"?

Exactly what kind of "deals" is eBay bringing other than honext sellers AUCTIONING gold and silver?

It seems to me that eBay isn;t doing squat except hauling in the FVF's!

What a bunch of STUPID Knuckle heads.

Yes. This makes ebay a horrible place to buy/sell bullion. I don't sell any bullion on ebay that doesn't have a numismatic premium. So perhaps ebay realizes this and is planning to lower the FVF on bullion. They have lower FVFs on TVs and electronics where the markup appears to be thin (but not as thin as bullion). --Jerry

gold and silver eagles are also US coins, as are most commems. List them in the US Coin section under 'other' and problem solved.

eBay spends more time trying to catch what they call "cheaters" doing things like this than they do trying to catch scammers. So I would expect they quickly address this loophole. I hope they don't require all silver, gold, and platinum eagles to be listed as bullion.

I just got off the phone with eBay. The guy I was talking to talked around the office and no one had heard of any changes and there was nothing in their intra-office update about it. He said "that would be a big deal if they got rid of eBay bucks. Thats a really big category." I proceeded to provide him with the link he was like ummmm well this is new... After an awkward silence I commented that if he would like to read the page and give me a call back it would be fine. I hope to get a call later on the issue.

I just got the same love note from FeeBay.

It just gets worse and worse. They seem to have no problem adding the FVF to shipping, hosing sellers, etc...

    They are getting so bad.

    FVF on shipping.

I need to research my sales to find out how this is addressed when a sale is cancelled. I know that FVF on listings are refunded but what about the shipping?

Just figured out that Gold, silver and platinum eagles have been moved to bullion, including PCGS 70s selling at significant numismatic premium, so all of my buyers are getting a 2% price increase with nothing into my pocket. --Jerry

As usual, only half of the info given.
They left out the only question everyone who read the email is asking.

    Why?

    At least give a reason!

There isn't even an option to reply so I can for the reason.

As a business, I can understand why they don't get the answer to your question, nor an option for you to reply.
It's a business decision they made and they want. They don't want people questioning something that they are unlikely to change, nor do they want to give an unreasonable expectation of such; which some folks would get if they had an option to reply.

I don't like the decision but from looking at their actions from a business standpoint, I can understand why they went about it the way they did (they informed and left it at that).

Tried to list a raw AGE in Ebay's bullion>Gold>American Eagle category. Would not let me do it, got this message, until I removed "in airtite capsule" from the title.

"You can not submit your listing due to the following problems
Please be aware that the Bullion categories are reserved for solid precious metals.
Plated bars, coins and other plated items can’t be listed in the Bullion categories, since they are not true bullion. Related items such as molds, scales, etc. are also not allowed to be listed in the Bullion categories

For more information, please review the Categories section of eBay’s Search and browse manipulation policy"

Looks like they are making their move to isolate bullion.

When I tried to list American Eagle one oz silver bullion coins in this category:

Coins & Paper Money > Bullion > Silver > American Eagle

I could not complete the listing, and received this error

Please be aware that the Bullion categories are reserved for solid precious metals.

Plated bars, coins and other plated items can’t be listed in the Bullion categories, since they are not true bullion. Related items such as molds, scales, etc. are also not allowed to be listed in the Bullion categories

    Funny.

I just listed 23 Silver Eagles in Coins & Paper Money > Bullion > Silver > American Eagle

All with the title "yyyy US Silver American Eagle - SAE BU"

When they make an uninformed and probably incorrect business decision, as ebay frequently does, if we can figure out what they were trying to accomplish, we can make comments that keep them on track. I was involved, with other forum members, in getting new rules for coins changed to accomodate moderns a couple of year ago. We could see what they were trying to accomplish and were able to help them. In this case, I can't figure it out. --jerry

I just ran into this issue for the first time... quite unexpectedly.

I rarely look at the category coins are listed in... I just run my searches and if I see what I want to bid on, I don't care what category the seller chose to list the coins in.

I won a modern commemorative set recently and only after paying for it did I notice that I didn't get any eBay Bucks in connection with my purchase. I couldn't figure out why at first until I remembered this post about the bullion category. Sure enough, I went back and looked at the auction I won and it was of course listed in the bullion category so no eBay Bucks for me. Not sure why the seller chose that category since it wasn't bullion, but I do know that I got screwed out of my eBay Bucks because of it and I'm almost wanting to give the seller bad feedback because of it! I don't think I'd neg them... but maybe some harsh words in a positive or neutral feedback would make me feel better about losing my bucks!! image
