no more ebay bucks for bullion

starting Oct 1....ebay will no longer award ebay bucks for items bought in the bullion catagory

    I just got the email too. Not good. It didn't help when they got rid of the third party discounts (mrrebates, etc...), now no rebates at all.

    If you're a seller just figure out another legit category to list in. It might make the difference on a sale or not.

    Yep... list in the coins category perhaps. But the way things are going with eBay, they will probably close the discount eventually on that category also. The bean counters are probably counting up how much money they let slip by by having the 2% discount... I'm sure they figure by doing away with it, they will be putting all that amount back into their pockets. But what they don't realize... less individuals will purchase the bullion without the discount, or they will bid accordingly. What ebay gains by doing away with the discount, they may lose a good portion in volume.

    I suppose that I can list my "bars" as medals in the Exonumia category, but will it get as many "hits?"

    I believe most buyers search by keyword, not category. At least that's the way I do it.

    Me too, but watch, they will make searching by category the "default" way of searching. I use to really enjoy doing eBay, buying & selling, now not so much. They've become way too greedy because they know there isn't another major player that can compete, ir that is willing to I should say.

    My search is by keyword, but within a category.

    bullion is a sub category of coins and currency. I usually search coins and currency for gold or silver. Just check to see that what you are purchasing isn't in the bullion subcategory.

    They must have been paying out some big ebay bucks with bullion.

    I always used the 2% eBay bucks to calculate the true cost of the item on eBay as the sellers are have jacked their prices up to pay the high seller fees charged by eBay. It will be interesting to see how much their bullion sales drop off due to this considering 99% of the items listed as BIN's are about 10 to 20% over spot.

    I know my high bid has just got 2% or more lower than what I use to pay on auctions.

    Why are you even considering looking at the BIN for common bullion auctions on eBay? For every BIN, there is also a regular auction for the common stuff.

    Why, because generally the bids go for much more than what it is worth (ASE for $50+) However, if you watch, you can get really good deals when someone lists BINs, generally at spot or less (I have bought ASE for less than spot not including the eBay bucks). Granted, I may have enough physical gold and silver but I like adding a little here and there. The eBay bucks gave me incentive to buy when I found good deals as I would always plow it right back in to PM's.

    I am sure the seller still made a profit on my "good deals" as they may be like you posted on the other thread about this subject, you bought for much less. Heck, I have a huge amount of 90% I picked up at face in the later 60's when it was actually worth 3x face and if I were to sell it now; I would make a huge profit. But, I think anyone selling will see at least 2% less for their bullion now due to this decision. Maybe it is not much but 2% of $50,000 is a loss of $1,000 in potential profit. Add that to the eBay/PayPal fees and taxes, the loss keeps adding up.

    I do find it assuming they have offered me an addition 5% (7% total) in eBay Bucks up until Sept. 30, 2011. Buying a BIN at spot and getting a 7% discount is a good deal in my book. Now, if you have all the PM you need and are not stacking anymore, then the loss of the eBay Bucks is moot to you.

    Another question that has not been brought to light is...what % of J6P buyers on eBay, which I believe is the majority, do qualify for eBay bucks? If it is just a very small %, then it will not make a difference in the final price of bullion related items sold.

    So, what you are saying is not everyone earns eBay Bucks? I know I was invited when they first started the program but I believe they opened it up to all, J6P and anyone else.

    Mr Rebates keep saying it's coming back but with this happening, I am beginning to have my doubts.

    I don't believe so, but I may be wrong. I'm the only one in my "circle" that still gets the ebay bucks. On the other hand, I do 90% of the buying also.

    Yup, the "Bullion Center" is just a way to draw you towards eBay's best sellers. All items are located in the Coin & Currency - Bullion section.

    Drop an Eagle in front of you and then kick you in the @!#%%@% when you bend over to pick it up.

    eBay Bucks has been open to all buyers for about a year, so everyone should be making the 2%...

    I do wonder if the Gold & Silver center will be category in and of itself and eBay Bucks will still be awarded. The theory being eBay wants you to use these 'certified' sellers. As certified sellers eBay's fraud losses should be less so it could be a win-win...

    Yup, he just need to go to the eBay Bucks section and agree to their terms.
