This coin is a circulated proof, and you will be getting ripped off. The tell is the reverse, there is an vertical slash on the left side of the shield. This is only found on the proof die.

I think I know where that coin came from. Someone slipped it by PCGS. The buyer knew it was a circ. proof and the dealer sold it as one.

The scary thing too, is this is one of the pictured example on PCGS coinfacts as well. They really need to fix this. Wow edited to add they have a price realized on coin facts screwed up as well for the 1873 closed 3. The coin a F15 in June's stacks bowers Baltimore sale sold for $1,092.50. They have the price for the next lot listed as the sale price.

Excellent, would of hated to see someone get buried in that coin.

I also got an email reply back from Heritage stating they would pull the coin.

Great catch Partagas! You gotta love the speed that Heritage pulled this coin as well. Rev.A Proof die, pg. 173 Briggs' Comp. Encyclopedia give a great description of exactly what is depicted in the pulled coin. Apparently (according to Briggs) many of the proofs were released into circulation. Op gets the nod for the post of the day, whatcha think?

Agreed...post of the day. I guess it's kind of like the "You Suck" award, but you didn't actually make a serious score...just helped a bunch of people. More like a selfless "You Suck" award...might I suggest a "You Rock" award?

"You rock" works for me.

BTW, from Harry X Boosel "1873" Collection, RARCOA, 4/1972, courtesy Heritage archives. Mr. 1873's coin seems appropriate here. The true business strike reverse:
