1867 Indian Snow 1 1867/1867

Anyone know the value of these coins in choice VG? I know they go for big bucks in high grades. Even in VG the 6 and 7 are so obvious...

Thanks

Yes I have, but I saw one go off at Heritage in 2008 in a Anacs slab for $146.00 so I do not think the PCGs guide correct on that coin.

Believe it or not, it's actually valued lower than a regular 1867. I cherrypicked one a few years ago in this grade, but I suppose I would have been better of with a regular date. And, obvious they are. I spotted mine without a loop.

    Rick,

I think he is just refering to the pcgs price guide, pcgs does list the variety in low grades lower then the price of the non variety in low grades.

I don't think there's much of a premium ion low grades since it is a relatively common variety and the coin is already premium priced vs a more common date Indian cent. I'd expect to pay a premium on the order of 20-50% over the base value in lower grades, with the premium increasing with the grade. Rick Snow has already chimed in on the thread and he'd he best equipped to talk about the value in higher grades.

I had a 67/7 in Fine and a 66/6 in VG... they were very difficult to get rid of with a premium and they were problem free examples.

All of my mercury dime varieties are listed as having ZERO value within the PCGS registry set / price guide. Based on that, I think I should just give them all away. Who wants them? image

This is a very popular Indian cent variety in all grades because you can see the very bold overdate without a loupe. As long as the coin is original and problem free, in my experience, it sales for more than the non-RPD 1867. I agree the PCGS price guide does not keep up with "actual" prices on some coins, including this great Indian cent variety.

That's awesome Charmy, Mine is not that nice but oddly enough even in vg (choice) is stands out like a sore thumb. I am proud to own a SNOW 1 and will sell it at premium someday to a deserving collector that appreciates it.

Yep, PCGS price guide. I first checked PCGS Coin facts auction records, but none have been auctioned in that grade in recent times by the auction houses they provide.
