Coin Tintypes...yes, Tintypes! anyone interested?

Many of you folks know my job is making wet plate cameras, I also do the photography on tin and glass but havent reupped my chemistry in a few years. I asked a friend who is active in making images to try a test for me....I sent him a few digital images, and he printed them out, and shot a copy plate. The printout is reversed in the computer, so it is correct in the tintype, which is a direct positive, seen reversed. These are quarter plate size, which is 3 1/4" X 4 1/4". They show amazing detail, the process itself is grainless so if the copy image is good..the tintype will look just like a macro image done of the coin in front of the camera...which is nearly impossible in this case because the lighting cannot be made to do what it needs to do..plus, the results here are just about foolproof...and the process throws enough monkey wrenches at you when you do it normally.

so, I think this is uber cool. Just...very neat and a great way to represent your early coins. The plates can be larger, of course, and they can be done as ambrotypes (get my screen name now?) , which are images on glass.

Ive been wanting to make pictures again, since my days as a civil war reenactment photographer are long over. But, to do this photography..you really need to have a use for all this expensive freshly mixed chemistry..it all has a shelf life...so doing coin photographs...well, its VERY possible now I see.

I can do this, if you guys are interested. I can print out any coin picture, your coins, anyones coins for that matter, and shoot them as tintype.

The process was in use from 1851 to the mid 1880s so any image done during that time would have been with this process, many were done as negatives and printed as paper images..but tin and glass were there too, as a positive image

Whatcha think? Anyone interested in having tintypes done of their coins? image (ps I didnt take these pictures but I made the camera that did)
