For future reference, you should put a slip of white paper behind empty cases so the dummies who can't read are less likely to see coins where none exist.

I read the description and knew there were no coins before I looked at the pictures.

But my first thought when I saw the pictures was "why did he take pictures with coins in the holders".

Completely saw something that wasn't there. Of course the difference is that I read the description so I did a quick double take and realized that I was not seeing coins at all.

Brace yourself for one pissed off bidder!

Hopefully, s/he will email you their surprise at receiving empty boxes before simply negging you and filing sometype of chargeback.

Actually, you should probably contact the buyer with the question "You do realize that these are EMPTY boxes?" before proceeding.

But then.........you've probably already done that. image

Well, they are really nice boxes.image

Seemed like a pretty straight forward auction listing to me.

I don't get it. Why aren't empty boxes w/out coins shown in the listing pics? I see that the coins aren't included, but why post a description that doesn't match the pic?

    SNAD?

What listing are you looking at? The one linked to shows obviously empty boxes- that is, unless someone believes that it's possible to see the edges of the boxes through the coins.

Oh, yeah, ooops, guess those aren't coins, but silver carpet, instead. Oh well. Win some, lose some. Onward thru the fog.

Humans are VERY good at "seeing" things that are incomplete or that are sometimes not even there at all.

Usually it works out very well for us.

Sometimes it gets out of hand. image

I KNEW there were no coins in the picture and still had to do a double take because I thought there were coins in the holder at first glance.

Yeah, you're street legal, but it still leaves a sour taste (in my mouth anyway). But what the hey, 38 bucks ain't gonna break anybody so enjoy the windfall.

Seems overly harsh, if you ask me. The auction description wasn't deceptive and some people actually do want the boxes. What's wrong with offering them for sale?

Like I said brother, he's legal. I just think the description could have been a little clearer. He can set his price at whatever he wants.

This is the whole description (well, aside from the pictures which showed no coins):

This auction is for the EMPTY Boxes, COA's and Plastic Holders for the 2011 Silver & Clad Proof Quarters. Just as they came from the Mint, except no coins. COINS ARE NOT INCLUDED! Free S&H

    What's unclear there?

edited to add... it was an auction that opened at five bucks. The bidders set the price.

He put the edges of the empty boxes behind the cases so that you could see that the cases were empty. Not good enough for everybody, I guess.

Looks kind of funny, but maybe those two bidders really wanted those empty boxes and COA's.

What's the value of these sets when they have coins in them? It occurs to me that perhaps we have a couple bidders who bought some sets, cherrypicked the nice coins, and now want to re-create sets for sale with the leftover dregs. That might drive up the price.

I beleive I would E-mail the winner after the auction , and make sure they wanted empty boxes, coas, before I shipped them. If it was a mistake, offer a partial refund, and just charge them what I usually get for empty boxes.
