The first link is definetely a counterfeit ! If they all look like that one then this guy either has no clue and got burned or is a scammer. I'm guessing the latter.

I think he was burned as they all looked nicely cleaned too.

Still sent in reports on the three linked.

I was hoping the 1923 Peace dollar had a CC mint mark, too.

    Reported.

Use www.ebay.com/CCW - seems to get more attention.

  • And his feedback of 1171 is appearantly only as a buyer. None show from being a seller.

These look like some of the work of John Green who used to be in business in FL as AAA Coin and Jewelry in FL.

There are still many of these scattered about in FL and elsewhere being sold by various folks who probably got taken a few years back.

There was a thread in other blog sites about 3-1/2 years ago regarding Green.

Here is the only link I could find.

    Polk County Sheriff Link

Not saying all of oldbadknees coins are from this source but they sure look like many of the fakes Green produced. Most all seem to have the same reverse.

    Edit: found another link.

Probably happened because the original owner found out he'd been had. image

Looks like he did the right thing.

This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.

I think the guy just didn't know. I was high bidder on all and got this message:

    Dear bobandlinda1,

I was made aware that the morgan silver dollars that I had just listed might not be real. In case of this, I ended all of the auctions. I'm not a coin guy, and got these coins from a death in my family. I willtake them to a coin dealer and have them checked out. I will give you the first opportunity to purchase them if they are in fact real.
I contacted e-bay and informed them of the situation. I deeply apologize for the inconvienience, as you were the high bidder on all of them. I just could not take the chance of a problem.
    Thanks for your understanding
    Bob

    - oldbadknees

    So, then I sent this:

    Dear oldbadknees,

Yes, let me know. But, before you take them do a simple test or two at home. If a magnet sticks to them they are base metals and not silver dollars. Also put them on a digital scale. They need to weigh 26.6 grams to 26.8 grams to be real. Anything less or more indicates a fake.

    - bobandlinda1

    Then I got this:

    Dear bobandlinda1,

I just did the magnet thing and I can't believe I didn't think of that before. Getting old and stupid I guess. They are fakes.
I am glad that I realized this before selling them.
    A lesson learned.
    I apologize again for this.
    Thanks,
    Bob
