1833 Dime... can someone attribute it for me please?
I'd appreciate some help as I don't have a die marriage book for dimes. I bought this this weekend at a local show in San Antonio. It has some issues but was cheap and will look ok in the 7070. Just for my knowledge I'd like to know what is so I can write it down. The issues the coin has are that it has just the slightest amount of verdigris that I think acetone will remove without messing up the look of the coin. The reverse also has some gouges. Anyway, thanks if someone can help out. At the show I also picked up an 1857 half dime that while low grade looks nice and unmessed with.

Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
This isn't a half dime.
As I do not have a JR book in front of me, and I have not memorized all of the die varieties of 1833 dimes, I will not definitively attribute the coin that is pictured in the top post. I am surprised that RealOne did not attribute it in this thread.
Most collectors of Capped Bust Dimes 'by date' seek two for their respective sets, one with normal numerals and one with 'last 3 high.' I explain these points in a recent article. While I focus upon a wonderful 1833 'with last 3 high' in the recent SBG Baltimore auction, I discuss others in the article.

<< <i>JR-1. R3 per the JR book, although that is probably out of date. >>
The 1833 JR-1 is still considered an R-3 in the most recent JRCS Bust Dime census, Vol 23, Issue 3.
