So I'm enjoying Irene........good time to catch up on logging in stuff I bought last year. Not enjoy

Checked out my 2010 Prez$ proof set and noticed the Lincoln$

hard to photograph, the coin has very porous(sp) rings where it should have mirrored fields. QC shudda tossed that one in the discard pile.

Irene left this for me

    WHERE is Abes Wart?

Has it been politically correctly removed?

BTW here in south jersey the rain bands have been coming in hard. not too windy, but the humidity is killer. all boarded up and hopefully the neighbors oak tree will stay planted. my shop building is a century an a half old and the middle part is wooden roofed. it withstood the '44 storm and '62 so hopefully it will withstand this one too.

Excising the wart (mole) would be postmodern, not politically correct.

Nor are members of my family on the Atlantic side of Long Island. Lots of flood damage (2 ft of standing water on the ground floor) and of course no power. All are safe. MJ

At the end of the day, this is what really matters. Furniture and carpet can be replaced.

Not to sound insensative, and my prayers go out to all and there familys
that have suffered through these acts of nature that we cannot control.

But being a Southern California Native all my life, you may find it disturbing
that I would like to experiance a Hurricane, I can't help it, I admit theres
a attraction to this fury of nature that has been with me since watching
those Hurricane films in grammer school.

It's common to experiance earthquakes, fires, floods, landslides and an
occasional riot or two out here, manmade or natural, it's just somthing
you got to roll with out here.

I do beware for what I wish for, and accept what nature has in store,
whether it be good or bad and being a positive Human Being, I will be
ln awe at what mother nature can show me.

We get tornadoes, hailstorms, floods and modern crap coins, too. It's hard to enjoy any of it. I need an attitude adjustment.

I recommend you visit the east coast or gulf states to satisfy your curiosity. California doesn't need any additional furies of nature, or anything else to disrupt life.

Well, just to let ya know I'm not totally weird.
I do draw the line on Tornados, Volcanos and
Tsunamis, I'm pretty sure golf ball sized hail
    would'nt be pleasent either.

Allthough I don't mind SOME modern crapimage

Looks like you will be spending some coin on a new deck and a pump for the basement.

Hope there is no permanent damage.

We finally got 'our power' back, out since 8 PM nite of the storm. It was chaotic....I was at my shop, wife at home....wife at home with nine cats. I had battened down the shop, seriously prepared, boarded over the windows, had the kerosene lanterns ready...all ready.

Then the wife called.. Power out. Neighbors huge spruce tree (*really huge) had blown down, took out someones car, along with a pole and transformer. Panic had set in and we made the decision for her and the cats to GET out of there and get over to the shop.

Now, this was an exercise in well ordered chaos. Wind howling about 50 mph, torrential rain...we got the cats over there in three trips with two cages. A tree went down in just in front of me, on the road....just stopped in time. The highway that is between the locations was flooded, about 10 inches of water.

Now Im driving a Range Rover..the whole episode would have made a great commercial for Land Rover!!!

It all worked out OK. The cats found corners to hide in...a few were just about covered in mahogany dust! Joe howled and finally I couldnt take it anymore, stuffed him on a cage and took him out to a far corner of the building out of my hearing...

It was unearthly quiet in there...18 inch thick stone walls, steel roof with concrete on top...just heard a gentle patter of raindrops on the air conditoner.

Next morning...back home, played hide and seek finding the dusty cats, who did not resist going back into the cage and the trip home.

    MORAL OF THE STORY>>>

when a big storm comes, think ahead and prepare instead of {doing the right thing} well into the disaster coming into action.

Looks like no power will be restored for us until Friday or Saturday. Would not be so bad if we were on well water. At least I can run outside to the hot tub with a bucket to get flush water. And I think the athletic club has power so I can shower. May be time to trade in my 1885-CC Morgan MS65PL for a Honda genset . . . Nah.
