1873 Shield Nickel MS65

I went to an estate sale where I was told they had some coins. Not much there except Mercury dimes and one 1873 Shield Nickel in an old PCGS holder graded MS65. The price was $1900 which after looking it up seems pretty good. Sorry, no pic but it was a very nice looking piece. Should I give this a whirl and see if it upgrades? Should I pass?

Not great. PCGS MS65+ / CAC sold at Heritage for $2185 in April. I would expect to get something like this at wholesale or less at an estate sale.

So, what would be a good offer? $1000 for all the coins they have including the 1873 Shield Nickel?

Think like a dealer and offer accordingly.

The nickel could be a great deal at $1,900 or a terrible deal at $1,900 depending on what the coin looks like.

As for offering $1,000 for "all the coins they have including the 1873 Shield Nickel", I don't know how anyone could answer that without seeing the nickel and knowing what the other coins are.
