CRAZY BANK/ROLL FIND TODAY! :) *Updated with Bad iPhone Photos*

keyman64keyman64 Posts: 15,650 ✭✭✭✭✭
I will search rolls of half dollars from time to time. My focus is on silver content as you may imagine. I searched a few rolls today and I did not find any silver but you can't be a winner every time I guess. BUT, I did find something I have not imagined ever finding....heck, a few 'somethings' were found. image

I just updated with crappy iPhone Pics...the white reflection in the lower left quarter of the coin is my iPhone...I have a white Otter Box Case. image
Really crappy photos...you are just going to have to trust me that they are pretty darn nice proofs.

All are at least CAM. I would not go so far as to call these PF67s or better...but heck, they're PROOFS! Amazing!

Has anyone else found a pile of proofs when searching? And what did you find?

The best find I've ever had for proofs was 5 1957 Franklins in a box of halves. I don't know why but compared to all other denominations, proof halves are everywhere in bank rolls. I think I've pulled close to 3 rolls worth, though most are beat up and not as pristine as you describe.

What exactly is a "box of Halves"...is that a box of rolls from the bank...like $250 worth or something? Do you just go to the teller and ask if they have a "Box of Halves"? Thanks much!

I have to order boxes of halves from the teller. Not much to find these days though...last 1K in halves (2 500.00 boxes) I found 1 2001 clad proof.

A box of halves is $500. Banks generally don't have boxes of halves lying around as there is no demand for them, but if you call up a few banks, I'm sure one or two of them might be able to order them from the Fed provided that you have an account with them.

I ran across a few proofs here & there... My most recent were some 71 s, 72 s, & 76 s clads, but these had some degree of hairlines, or slight circulation.
I did pull out a 1997 s silver proof half once, & it was a nice DCAM after a dip. image

Pretty neat to find proofs... I recently got a 1976-S Proof Ike from the bank... really banged up and probably in PR45 condition. Still can see some mirrors though. I'll take it for $1 image

If you live in the Sacramento Area, kepp you eye out for all the Proofs that I'm gonna turn into the bank.

    There'll be 68's, 69's, 71's, 72's and a sprinking of 67's.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The only proofs I found in rolls when I was searching jefferson rolls back in 2003 was a few proofs, and they were from different banks and wrappers all with in a one week period.
