Bought this raw on ebay. Took two tries to get PCGS to grade it. I hoped for MS66, but got 65.

No, wish it were. It has the look but the rims aren't there.

Here's another raw purchase. Never sent it for grading...probably not worth it. But it's a handsome piece, I think.

    Great finds!

    <<That is not a Proof? >>

Not at all. Compare the square rims of the '14 with the rounder and uneven width of those on the '15 and also the beard detail along the jawline. But both are spectacular coins for sure!

I seldom buy anything raw on eBay anymore, but picked up this one not too long ago. It has likely been cleaned but it still has the type of look I like so I nabbed it.

Seller said this was "gold on bronze". Almost everyone believed him. Paid $325 / sold as scrap for $650 (0.41 ounce .900 fine)

    image

Seller said, "On the edge of the medallion it is marked 14K. I have had this tested by 2 reliable companies and it does not test 14K. I am not selling it as gold. The weight of the medallion is 1.45 ounces." Tested fine for 14K when I got it. Feels like the heft of 14K gold, too. Dunno what the seller was thinking. Paid $15 (including shipping!); probably heading to next year's Presidential auction. Designed by noted sculptor Paul Manship, with PM at bottom left of reverse. Bummer about the huge test cut on the reverse.

Bought this one BIN on the bay. I sure don't know what the seller was thinking as I picked this one up for a fraction of the price I would have paid. I'm thinking 66-67

Here's an 1872 Seated quarter bought raw, absolutely original and mirrored as deeply as a proof. I looked up the die marriage, and it's a PL business strike. My photos are absolutely awful and don't show the mirrors or the subtle colors, but it's really nice. This one is headed to PCGS if I ever get off my lazy duff and do a submission.
