Any opinions on this 1809 dime's planchet/damage?
I mentioned in my previous thread regarding the George Washington -Philadelphia Central Fair medal post about picking up a few new bust dimes, so, without further ado:
1820: JR-9 (R-4)

1830: JR-1 (R-4+) A tough coin in this grade, most are seen in VG

1809: JR-1 This coin was sold to me as damaged, but upon closer inspection the "damage" is actually a planchet defect!

<< <i>is that a bulge (from die sinking) on the 1820? >>
Yep, this variety is commonly found with a die bulge through the first 3 stars...The die bulge was actually what tipped me off to what it was when I saw it in the dealers case
I like the look of that 1820
<< <i>Thanks for the comments guys. Any opinions on the 1809's planchet? >>
It does look like a planchet defect as struck, not post-Mint damage. If you ever decide to part ways with it I know a type set that would welcome it.

<< <i>I think it is post int damage where the coin was pinched/clipped by a lever based tool (like scissors) which IMO is why it is flat on the one side and an angled cut into the other >>
This thought crossed my mind, just odd that the rim is intact on one side.

I agree. Obverse rim looks perfect. Still, looks like PM damage and I would guess that the grading services would not want to go out on a limb to call it something else.
