Hotel Buyers are in Town ... Ugh!

VTCoinsVTCoins Posts: 1,361 ✭✭✭
They are paying $6.50 for 90% and $10 for Morgan Dollars.

A customer brought in three flying eagle cents (VF, F and AG), and the buyers offered $3 total. $10 offer for five two cent pieces (one a nice VF/XF).

wanna borrow the T-shirt I wear to such events: "I pay top dollar for gold and silver coins, Call XXX-XXXX." Of course with my phone number on it I'll get all of your business. image

Most of my customers have been saying that they aren't very busy, so hopefully not too many people are getting taken.

Just had a customer come in with some gold that I bought for $2,300 that the hotel guys offered $300 on.

I think this may be the worst group to come into town yet!

My barber's friend is a collector. Despite how distasteful it is, he did stand in the parking lot here in Winona, MN and took away business from the hotel buyer. He paid fair prices and made a lot of people happy until the buyer came out and booted him from the parking lot. And no, it wasn't me although I was tempted. imageimageimage

what a waste of time them are and a total rip off image, they should be arrested soon as they hit the door
  • Ah quit your bellyachin! Nobody is forced to sell there silver coins at these places. image
  • What right does a buyer have to tell someone to leave a parking lot?
It's open to anyone who may rent a room in the same hotel .It's just
an unfortunate coincidence that two buyers chose the same weekend !

As long as you can produce your resale permit and prove that you're licensed/permitted to sell bullion in that state there should be no problem...that is unless the Hotel Management
has an issue with you setting up your own bullion shop in their parking lot. Let's see who gets booted: hotel buyers who paid hundreds or a thousand bucks for a ball room, or multiple
hotel rooms, or Joe Collector who deposited $1.00 in the soda machine 10 minutes ago.

The hotel buyers are back in my town this week as well. I had a few friends check on their prices........

90% silver they are paying 8x face
40% silver they are paying 4x face
Common, circulated Morgan/Peace Dollars they are paying $12/each

Unfortunantely, the public believes those big 2-full page color ads. image

They were here a few weeks ago for 2 weeks, paying about the same. I was not able to run a full page add the week they were here, as it would have cost 8k. , but I did run one the following week showing our buying prices etc, and many folks came in who did not sell. Some who had sold, were quite upset when they found out how they had been ripped.

  • Multiple hotel buyers have set up shop near me.
One has taken out multi-page adverts in the local paper for the last few weeks.
It's a shame that they are allowed to rip off people the way they do.
On the other hand, it's a shame that people don't have the sense to research what their coins and such are really worth.
  • Every time they come to the DFW area I RUN to the hotel to offer people MORE than the scammers. image

I have often wondered if there would be any major problems having someone hold up a sign and pass out fliers asking people to consider local dealers.

From what I've seen, I'm not convinced that the typical B&M coin shop will make a better offer.

On slabbed material, no. But on silver and gold, most definitely. The B&M that offered me 13 dollars or whatever it was for my old PCGS 1936 PR65RD cent offered recently to an acquaintance 26 dollars per Morgan.
