Just something about this Peace dollar caught my attention and I had to own it

braddickbraddick Posts: 25,220 ✭✭✭✭✭
Not a really big deal, but I was drawn to the overall look of this Peace dollar. The patina coupled with the strike. Just a neat coin that didn't break the bank.

Wanted to share. Sometimes cool coins come along and you're haunted on the idea of owning it.

Does anyone else share in this feeling?

Why would you buy a counterfeit for $36? Look at the reverse AMERICA/UNUM. Perhaps it's just
    damage or the pic????

Bob, I don't see the damage you are refering too and I don't believe it is a counterfeit.

First order of business when you get it in hand, coin ring toss...hoping it doesn't split in half when flicked.

My first thought was it was a reproduction. Counterfeit is such a harsh word! image

    Cool to see you posting!

Please do let us know how this one turns out. I trust you will know once in hand. Something about that photo makes me shy away, but I trust you to know for sure when it arrives...

Not my series, so take with several grains of salt, not even sure they had proofs that year, but it seems exceptionally hammered.

I got a counterfeit Peace dollar in a silver lot, once. It turned out to be worth as much as the real ones in the same lot. Of course, bullion was lower at the time. I had no trouble selling the counterfeit.

Kinda hard to lose on this one at the price, be it fake or real. I've had real ones with this look. It's a nice look.

Is that a "coaster ring" I see there?

Now I'm just picking on you.

I will definitely shoot photos and post when it arrives.

I still vote real yet will eat crow if it is otherwise.

    The auction listing says:

"Much nicer in color than the terrible photo".

In color?!? Hm. Hopefully the seller meant in person.

Maybe it's quite pleasantly toned in hand if the seller took the pictures in black and white image

Reproduction is the first thought that came to mind, but then I also collect sample slabs, nuff said!

If you really like the coin, you do not need any other opinions.

The coin does nothing for me, but that is just my opinion. Having

said that, remember, buy what you like and the priority is on the

word...YOU! Not everyone will like what you like, that is why the

coin is in YOUR COLLECTION and not in their collections..image

No, I am not but by the reports that are trickling in, sounds like a terrific time is being had.

As soon as this Peace dollar arrives I'll post a couple of photos. Good, bad or ugly.

    Check this out:

eBay auction for 1923 peace dollar

Described as "toned spots" on obverse and "dark" reverse. No picture of the reverse is provided; the auction leaves that to the imagination of the bidder.
