ScarsdaleCoinScarsdaleCoin Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭✭✭
I just got a call that Donald Blau was robbed of several hundred thousand dollars worth of various coins Sunday Afternoon when leaving the Parsippany NJ coin show....

This was a smash grab from the trunk of his suitcase with 3 hard cases and 1 canvas bag being stolen.....

I will start a reward fund offering $1,000 for information leading to the return of these items... hopefully PNG will add to the fund as many of you know Donald is a great guy who does the local circuit in NY, NJ, CT

I will try to post additional information on what was taken shortly.....please spread the word

Jon

    That sux!
I know a number of our current (and some former) members attend this show regularly - I'm glad no one was hurt, and I too hope they nail the perps soon.

Some might not agree with me, but punishment of crimes in the US are too lax....if the thief were to lose a hand or a couple of thumbs as punishment, I think we would see less of these crimes (or more people missing hands or thumbs image ) I hope his coins are recovered.

Hearing these stories makes me think of the wildlife shows where there is an unsuspecting zebra that seems to be oblivious of lurking danger and gets picked off by the lion. There always seems to be those zebras around coin shows. Glad no on was hurt though.

Were the coins left in the trunk unattended? Did it happen in the parking lot?

I've said a few times there is not enough security at the Parsippany show.

How many more robberies like this need to take place before dealers figure out that it's not a good idea to leave coins in a car unattended?

Thats Horrible. Once the word gets out to these bad guys in general, this thing could pick up even more.

Dealers are creatures of habit (arent we all) and one afternoon spent 'figuring things out" and next show they hit.

You dealers need to at least arrange to hire an off duty cop to help you in and out of these shows.

These criminals probably just need a hug, right? I'm curious, how would you go about reducing crime in our country?

I would agree with that law too. But maybe we should have more programs to help the poor thief right? image

happened right in the PAL show parking lot... he went to grab some stuff from inside.... these cases were locked in the trunk....

sad part is that they do have some security at this show...usually a police officer is outside watching the lot for just this sort of thing....

however I must say that after last year 2 dealers being followed from this show and robbed that I dropped it from my show list and only visit rather than set up...

If I were a police officer and was asked to guard a car where someone had just stuffed several hundred thousand dollars worth of coins, I couldn't help thinking, what side of the car should I be standing? image
