I agree, and the fact that no one will care that you have a videotape of the boxing and shipping process. Also, Paypal/eBay protections mean nothing to the Buyer's credit card company and he will get his money back on a charge back if he is a good customer.

And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with being cautious - shredding documents with your identifying information, paying attention to reports of criminal activity in your area, drinking bottled water if you prefer it.

Fully agree and of course I take appropriate caution and don't run through life naked with my hair on fire. My problem is with the prevailing and growing fear that a certain segment of society is gaining that makes them cautious to the the point of almost stalemate. They bring it to the workplace and the employers make ridiculous rules to satisfy the vocal minority. They suggest out of freiendship that I shouldn't drink tapwater because they read a report on the internet that it is poison and I have to politely explain that I think it is hogwash and try to no offend their intelligence (not always successful)....that type of stuff.

If they want to drink bottled water, that is fine with me but don't make me explain why I don't.

Greg, I used a video recordin once. As a buyer. I won a high 3-figure Shield Nickel on e-bay (raw coin). I got one of those Priority mail boxes. When I received it, the box felt like it was empty. Being suspicious, I brought out my digital SLR and had my wife open the package while I recorded and narrated. We displayed all six sides of the package, including the shipping label to establish the box hadn't been tampered with. Then I instructed her on video to open the package. When she popped the lid open, there was a Saf-flip taped to the underside of the box lid with the coin present.

Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised at not being scammed. I've received coins in all variety of strange packaging, but this one was definitely one of the weirdest.

    Cheers!

P.S. when mailing coins, I've actually used tape to secure the coin to its inner packaging to make it difficult for someone to manipulate it out of the packaging. But, I usually place the coin in bubble wrap and in a bubble wrapped lined envelope. I also use packaging tape to secure the seams of the envelope. When I ship I use Priority Mail with delivery signature required. Insurance on expensive items and it all works for me.

<< <i>Edited again that you better bring your own tape the USPS doen't give it away anymore. >>

3 Clearks at the Main PO in my County all said they haven't heard this, and they still give away free tape for Priority Mail and Express Mail.

Are you saying all other tape?

They speculated it was just something a local PO was doing to save money.

No I was referring to the clear packing tape. The embossed Priority mail and Express is still available and mine even gave me a roll of the Priority.
