<< <i>Looks really nice for a cleaned NCS based on your slab shot... Would like to see the whole coin.
Can you post some large obv/rev pics of the $20 >>
As much as I love the coin, I'll be the first to admit that the picture in the OP is flattering of the $20. It's a rather scrubby coin (which still doesn't show too well in these pics).

It's attractive as far as cleaned goes as I've seen far more horrific looking scrubbed gold in NCS's holders.
I think NGC will toss this in a Details Edgeview holder for $5
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
While the 1861-O in the OP is a problem coin, I think the final price was reasonable. The AU58 example in the same auction sold for $75K! Congratulations!
I believe that there are 3 dies states of the 61-o DE and the preferred one is the one with the re-engraved date. But to be honest I don't think anybody knows for sure which were struck and by whom, the half or the DE.

Randy Wiley wrote this up in the Gobrecht Journal some years ago. Although the die pairs can't be absolutely confirmed, he makes a very good case for which ones belong to which authority (US, State of LA, Confederacy).

Correct On the Half's there is a prevailing theory about the dies/combos & Die states and 2-3 market accepted CSA die pairs with die crack diagnostics. I don't have a better theory just stating that it is only a theory.
The 61-o DE is slightly different as there was only one die used and they can tell the chronological age of the striking but the theories fall on what point the Union > State of LA > The CSA- had control of the mint during which strikings. I am not a DE collector but if I recall; There is Die State A: which has the Weak but complete date and that transitions to (Die State B: ) the partially missing weak date (similar to the OP Coin) then there are a few known (Die State C: ) with a crudely recut date to strengthen the 1 & 8. It is widely assumed that the Recut one is The CSA coin or State of LA.

No one that I am aware.
The double eagle is the sort of coin stories are written about.
Wow.
