You're missing two enthusiastic and commited bidders. (28 bids spread amongst 8 bidders)
One in particular bid 16 different times driving the price over $100. The under bidder submitted 3 individual bids which only increased his max bid as he was always in the lead.
This probably led the winner into believing he had to drop a thermo-nuclear snipe which he did with 3 seconds left on the clock.
Does it mean that all the 0000000 sample slabs will end this high?
IMO, No.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
This slab contains a proof coin, not the very popular and widely available MS variety. As such, they are very rare, much rarer than doilies (sorry, Drunner).
That is a PCGS 1.1 (proof dime). Quite rare to find one now. 2nd earliest of the 4 'Rattler' type samples and hard to come by. They indicate the sample first given out as PCGS became a viable entity and the 00000.00/0000000 serial is what was used in the PCGS 1.0 and 1.1 samples.
I can't speak to the value but I believe it is as Lee has mentioned . . . two bidders who really wanted it. However, anytime one of these comes up on eBay I would expect it to go for a solid amount. I think $100-$150 would be conservative.
Oreville will speak to this later and he is the one who can flesh out many pertinent details, and correct me where I may have erred.

Oh, and Wings . . . I believe you are right. I can find Doily samples almost anywhere, but a 00000 Rattler has eluded me! Great history here . . . :-)

BTW - have you ever seen a doily sample dime with the word "Sample" centered on the label (all the other ones are left-justified)?
I have!
PS: Don't bother looking at sampleslabs.com because it isn't listed.
This is #174 slot from your collection:
It has the 1961 PR64 in a sample slab.
Ok, lets try again!
