1886 Morgan Rattler MS 66

Think it has a shot at 67? My pictures don't do it justice; if it has any weakness it is in the breast feathers.

I think we'll need a better image. I will tell you in the image provided I see some ticks that could hold it back along with the area by the arrows and eagles left wing. My guess is no.

I would WAG that the mild chatter on reverse between the eagle's left wing and the wreath is what kept it out of a 67 holder originally.

Can't hurt to try it though.

I would say 66, to many ticks for a 67.

    Nice Morgan image

Looks at least 66+ to me.

I'd say it has a fair shot at 67. It looks equivalent to what is in NGC 67 holders. Cheek and neck look clean enough which is critical.
PCGS might have a problem with some of that obv toning subduing the luster through 25% of the obverse. Not many Morgans got the 67
grade back in the days of the rattler.

Not sure I'd want to crack it out and lose that rattler. Most looking at it would assume it's strong for the grade. Over time there may be so few
ratters left that coins like this might be fetching 67 money on their own. At auction it would only take 2 bidders out of a 100 who think this might
upgrade to get you strong money for the coin. So if it were me, I'd leave it alone assuming you don't have to sell it right now.

Thanks for the input. That coin has luster; those cartwheels come through the toning. All this talk of Rattlers and 3.5's made me dig out my old slabs and give them a look.

I remember when I got this thinking that is one clean Morgan. The hair is better than my picture showes, and except for the 2 small dings on the reverse there ain't a mark on the lady. The only other problen I see is the eagle's breast, not a strong strike imo.

Back to the box for her; lets see what another ten years bring.
