Bidask's New York Adventure !

bidaskbidask Posts: 14,057 ✭✭✭✭✭
These past few days Bidask went to the great state of New York to conduct business as a client and with a client.

After fighting off the storms Bidask arrived in New York Wednesday evening where he promptly got a good night's rest at the Intercontinental Hotel in
Times Square dreaming about making a big coin score the following morning.

And sure enough on Thusrday morning at 8:15am, Bidask was met by non other than Ms Laura Sperber who graciously came in from New Jersey to meet with
me at Carnegie's deli.

Yes, Bidask had the full attention of arguably the premier coin trader in the United states for a full hour, talking coins, the coin market, coin deals, coin people,
and CAC, PCGS and NGC ..... all over pastrami, lox and bagel, whitefish and sable, coffee and juice.

Thank you again for breakfast Ms Sperber and the time you spent with me!

Thank you for taking a ton of coins over to CAC for me....and please give a big hello to your partner George and
Mr Albanese.image

I cannot go into detail of the full transaction between us where coins were passed back and forth over the breakfast table but I think I can say the
coin below now resides in the Bidask collection!

It was recently described by a Heriatge cataloguer as:

1890 Eagle, Gem Deep Cameo
Among the Finest Known1890 $10 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. Ex: Flanagan. This piece was formerly offered as lot 5348 in the Father Flanagan Boys Town sale (Superior, 5/1990), where it realized $68,750. (The PCGS holder displays the misspelling "Flannagan.") At that time it was cataloged as:

"1890. Eagle. NGC graded Proof 65. Cameo. Delicate toning. Spectacular quality for a Proof Eagle, the cameo contrast being the strongest we have seen on one of these. This is the only Proof 1890 Eagle graded by NGC. Because of its Gem quality it is sure to bring a lofty premium."

Lots 5346 through 5349 were individual coins from a complete gold proof set, each certified PR65 Cameo by NGC and each piece displaying similar delicate toning, appearing as an original set, rather than one that was assembled afterward. Lot 5350 was an offering of the entire set, but the coins sold separately.
We are unaware of any earlier provenance for this piece, now housed in a Gem Deep Cameo PCGS holder. Although Heritage has been privileged to offer a remarkable run of Liberty double eagles in recent months, this spectacular Gem is among the finest Liberty eagles that we have offered in quite some time, an assessment with which CAC apparently agrees, given their green label affixed to the piece.
When this piece is rotated just a tad under a light, the fields on each side easily "fade to black," producing the much-desired appearance of gold devices floating on immensely deep, black, watery fields. The strike and overall appeal are exquisite, and not much hindered by the few wispy signs of contact that nonetheless preclude an even finer grade.
The mintage of proof eagles in 1890 is given as 63 pieces, but few indeed survive in such commendable condition. Perhaps half that number survive today in all grades, with few at the Deep or Ultra Cameo levels. Population: 1 in 65 Deep Cameo, 1 finer

After concluding a great breakfast, coin discussion, and coin transactions with Ms L.S. , Bidask had to go and serve his client who came in from Dallas who I met in New York for meetings at the MorganStanley headquarters where we met with the iconic David Darst, then on to Legg Mason headquarters ( in the New York Times building) where we heard from Ron Perry ( whose municipal bond team may be the most prolific in the country) and then concluded the day touring the NYSE where my client took a shot of Maria Bartiromo and Bidask .

image

Last evening I went and saw Spiderman.....I can identify with Peter Parker....image

This morning I went back to Carnegies and this time ordered corn beef and eggs, coffee, and read Baron's newspaper where the feature cover article is about the China military buildup.
( who would take on those guys?)

If that isn't enough excitiement in NY, Bidask is readying himself at a strategic location to observe his first gay parade to be held today! ( my wife gave me the ok to take a later plane home)

The 42nd annual Gay Pride Parade will kick off at noon in Midtown. This year, an estimated half a million participants will be celebrating New York’s historic decision to legalize same-sex marriage.

But don't worry, that 1890 proof dcam liberty is safe in my pocket.image

I'm jealous! I was a stock broker in the late 1990s and I watched Maria Bartiromo on TV MON-FRI without fail!!!!! She has aged well to say the least. I still flip to CNBC during the weekdays every now and then. image

Oh, the 1890 is cool too...but since I will never be able to afford something like that...I'm just not jealous for some reason. Very cool though...low mintage and Pop 1 with 1 Finer...very nice. Congrats!

I know them both and BA is not an alt.

BTW, Barry, how about covering the Langbord trial for us or at least some of it? I think that the count is only a stone's thru from your International Offices.
