Do you ever think about coins you once had?.....

Well, I don't dream about them but the pics I've taken are my randomized screen saver! Love to sit and watch
those little babies display their best in my old photos. It does bring back the memories of those particular coins,
and even brings back memories of where they came from. The individuals that owned them before me and
the stories they related. I can watch it forever, it seems.
Just a pleasant rant for father's day. Memories are good.

...... which brings me to a slightly depressing thought:

Properly cared for, these coins will be around long after we aren't........ so, do we really "own" them, or are we just guardians along the way?

I've been thinking that maybe I need to get at least one "ancient" coin. Holding something from the B.C. years puts it all into perspective.

Yes I do.

A few forum members currently own coins I used to have.

With most coins, I'm able to look back and say "So long...it's been good to know ya."

But some coins stick with me and I'd like to have them back. A certain pedigreed Connecticut Copper comes to mind, as does an 18th century gold coin from a shipwreck, and a rare variety of a Hibernia Halfpenny.

Gee thanks. Now I'll dwell on these coins for a while.

I sit and ponder about coins I used to own from time to time. Looking at the photos are embarrassing at times because I realize how bad I was at taking photos, or just how bad/damaged the coins were, but it does make me realize how far I've come in my collecting and picture taking.

I miss owning some coins, but I don't know that I regret ridding of them as each coin I've done away with has just led me to where I am today.

The second I sell a coin I liked I begin a ritual of drinking and eating from aluminum until I completely forget it!

Seriously I more so like to think of the coin the sale of the other funded as under most circumstances the newp is more satisfying and a lot scarcer.

Yes...

probably the one I think about the most is an MS 1808 Half Eagle I owned at one time. Everytime I see Bailey's avatar (which is quite a bit nicer coin) I think of it.

Just like Realone, if I have have ever owned it I still have it. I have let a couple of coins get away from my possession through stupidity to people that didin't deserve them. In other words I have let a few coins get away from me trying to help other people only to find out I was being used.

No. Because the ones I sold, I sold for a reason. Once gone, I dont miss them at all.

Sure. That being said, you can't look back. Decisions in the past were supported by reasoning that may not apply today but nevertheless at the time these decisions were valid based on available info. No regrets. Move on.....

I think often of all of the 2008 W issues that I sold when they were going for less than half of what they are now....

I very rarely think about coins that I have sold.
However, I frequently think about coins that I did not buy when I had a chance to get them.

I have sold only a few coins before, but yes, there is one that I wish I would have kept. The one that comes to mind is an 1877-CC 50c in a PCGS MS62 holder that I bought for $775 and sold to Alistair Skinner for $1,000. Yes, I made a few bucks on it, but I dont think Ill ever be able to replace it for that price.

There are a few coins I've sold that I sometimes wish I still had. Occasionally I'll go through images of them since that's the only way I can enjoy them now. I also have a screen saver that randomly goes through my coin pics.

There are many I've long since forgotten about. But there are a select few that I'll never forget and do occasional revisit in my thoughts.
