Reengraved SLH on EBay

This one was not as obvious as others one sees on EBay. The reengraving is most obvious below the right thigh and around the flag pole. Also, in how the upper shield is highlighted and separated from the right thigh. I hope nobody here purchased this coin.

I asked the dealer if the coin had been reengraved, knowing that, in fact, it had been reengraved. He answered that it "has not been engraved in any way". Either the guy can't recognize tooled coins or he's being less than honest.
"...or he's being less than honest."

I would think contemporary engraving such as this would add value to a low value coin. Kind of like a potty dollar or a hobo nickel.

I'm guessing a little bit of both....he probably didn't see it, then when confronted, quickly denied it w/o even looking at it.
I continue to be amazed at problem coins dealers have that they don't recognize. Just last Sun one of the full time dealers at our monthly show was showing a seated half to another dealer that had just been returned to him from NGC....'look at this, this coin is at least a 63....I turned down 63 Bid on it!'. After the other dealer was done, I asked if I could see it....what I saw was a high AU coin that had been very lightly whizzed. Fortunately he didn't ask my opinion. NGC had it right, but I'm sure the coin will be sold to someone down the road as a choice Unc.
