Coin "Lost In The Mail"............7/15/11 Update in first post..

I shipped this coin to my buyer in Oregon on 5/31 first class insured w/ signature conf. It was scanned and left the sort facility in Tampa on 6/1.......then poof !

It sold for a couple hundred bucks on ebay, if anyone sees this pop up anywhere I would appreciate a heads up,

My customer emailed me that he received the coin today.................45 days late but at least I do not have to deal with the usps insurance crap...

So, you are absolutely positive that the buyer did not receive the item?
If so, that really is an odd situation. Lost, then sold. And what are the odds that the person that 'found' it or stole it, knew enough about coins to know he could sell it for a good amount of money?

The item was sold, then shipped to the person that bought it, it never got there, and yes I am sure of that!

What was I getting at, is most likely, the person who found the item had to have known something about coins. To confirm this, any chance we can get the seller's eBay name who sold the item?
And also, have you contacted the eBay seller, explaining to him the back story of the item, and asking where he got it?

You're missing it. The OP sold the coin on eBay. He shipped it. It never arrived. End.

So paying extra for Delivery Confirmation only protects you from a crooked buyer claiming they never received it, since the PO only refunds your money if it's insured? Does the PO have no obligation to do anything about your "lost" delivery confirmation stamped package?

I won a ASE on eBay in like November and never got it. The seller saw that it wasn't delivered
and refunded my money. No kinding here it shows up to me in April out of nowhere with the post
office says something like found and forwarded. I email the seller and told himand we both couldn't
believe it. I sent him his refund back and I still can't understand the good ole US mail. Hang in there
it might show up.

I would demand a refund on my postage fees. You paid 'em to deliver and prove that they delivered and they didn't do either.

I shipped a coin to a forum member on April 16.....never showed up. The last scan was at the postal hub in Orlando, the evening after I had shipped it. Numerous calls and inquiries resulted in nothing. Waited 30 days, filed an insurance claim, and by magic it showed up at the buyer's address on June 3, roughly 10 days after the claim was filed. My guess was it was sitting around somewhere, and the claim motivated the right people to locate it and get it delivered. Hope your situation turns out Ok too.

I have one in the twilight zone too.

I was told that it could be anywhere. When they scan something, it is for the whole batch of packages (hundred of package with one scan), except for the initial and final scan! So it can be anywhere.

It is a scarce coin well struck like that. Keep an eye out.

Since the sig. conf. was not signed and the coin insured the OP will be able to make a claim. Still it would be nice to find this coin.

i'm in the middle of this too. i sent a package with signature confirmation, and then *poof*, nobody knows where it went. the tracking #'s just report that it was accepted that day, and then nothing else.

i asked about it, and the second i said 'no i didn't insure it' they didn't care anymore. the supervisor literally walked away right after i said that.

i ask about it 3 times a week now and i can tell nothing is going to come of it.. they just don't care

What do you expect them to do? Despite popular belief to the contrary, paying for signature confirmation does not automatically provide for tracking of a shipment. Sometimes you get it, but you can't count on it. I know it's tough to lose something, but if you want insurance to cover a potential loss, you have to pay for it.

let's say you paid me to bring a box to your buddies house, and i... whoops... lost it along the way. and then when you asked 'wtf, he never got it?' i just shrugged my shoulders and said 'ya shoulda paid fer insurance'..... regardless of 'insurance' you could've paid for, i lost your box because i'm incompetent, and you should be annoyed.

so i expect apologies, and shame in their faces. rather than this 'derrr, ya shoulda blah blah blah.. you're the one that screwed up' attitude. and if you don't understand that you never will. i don't want to hear excuses or policies, so save it.

I'm not making excuses. If you want to be compensated for a loss, you have to buy insurance. That's just the way it works.

I didn't say you made the mistake, but unless you paid for Express Mail, there's no tracking on your package. It's not like the post office can just go and pick it up wherever it is, and get it on its way.

Hope this works for Coinlieutenant and I...he shipped registered on June 11...still no coin. How in the heck does registered mail get lost or worse; stolen? John filed the claim on July 9th...with any luck I should have it on the 20th.

Similar story happened to me last year. Sold some silver on the bst board and shipped it out. 3-4 weeks later it had not arrived so I refunded the money and about a week later it arrived at its destination. Perhaps the call to the post office and investigation led to it being found, I dunno.

I had a coin vanish.

It was scaned in at my local PO, then POOF. The PO confirmed they had not tried to deliver it before it went missin.

My coin was never delivered.

As far as I know, it was never found. This coin was a prize for winning a charity auction run on the forum. So the person that stole it from the PO is a grave robber.

I am wondering if the one who steals it has access to a database that shows claims filed for lost coins. If filed, they move it on the way. If not, they keep it.

If u notice, postal workers will ask you what you are shipping. Chances are the buyer did both frequently, and probably spilled the beans. It most likely got to it's destination, and said postal worker went klepto. Whether or not the theif was knowledgeable about coins is irrelevant. If you opened a package with a comic book that was sealed in a hard plastic case with a grade and barcode on it, I'm pretty sure the average Joe would think they have something valuable. This is all just a theory of course, no accusations here. I would suggest the buyer switch mailing locations.

I've never had a package lost and I've sent tons of them. Maybe late, but never lost. Also...

I sent a package yesterday to our host at 3PM CST. Guess what? It was delivered today at 8:10AM

And they even had the order inputted in the system by the end of day. Okay, so I use express mail!
