SADLY, the only way this listing will get pulled is if the # of 'reports' meets a minimum Ebay threshhold. On Craigslists it's about 10.

Tom you need to email 10 customers and have them do a favor for you. If you can, keep track of how many people report the listing and share the info. I reported from one Ebay acct.

BTW, if you read what 'MY' buyer policy is on that listing.....when one reads the sentence...I get the distinct impression it is a hijacked account by an overseas person. Notso good with the speeling and gramer.

Hmmmm... Looking at the ebay seller's markup. Do you think he anticipates "selling" the coin and then purchasing it from you and making a hefty profit in his markup? Or is it more likely just flat-out fraud?

Why would someone else report this? A 3rd-party complaint that a seller is using someone else's photo/text probably is not going to get much attention. Frankly, how does ebay know that the seller doesn't run that website or otherwise has persmission to sell the coin on consignment?

I would think that if the actual owner of the coin notified ebay that a seller has a listing for something the seller doesn't actually own (or has premission to sell)--that might be a lot more effective.

There is a way to put an alternate picture for when someone uses your pics. Not sure how it is done but I have seen the results on ebay of stolen pics using this method and it is usually pretty funny.

Only if their picture is tied to your link, for example in photobucket. Then when you change it in photobucket all links to it changes. If thief copied pic and saved it himself trick won't work.

Tom, I would think the damages are minimal. A serious buyer seeing both listings that does not know you would probably call the number on your listing to inquire about the two listings. It is possible that the ebay seller is hoping to find a buyer at his price and then quickly purchase the coin at your price to complete the sale. If that is the case and he tries to buy it from you it would be nice for you to know who he is so you can refuse to sell it to him and force him into an ebay dispute with his buyer. All we know from his listing is he is in NY, NY. If he sells first and then yours immediately sells to a NY buyer, you might consider not going through with the sale.

I also received a couple of emails from ebay:

I have received many reports concerning this listing and listing

I'm adjusting the title of the thread accordingly and editing some of my opinions.

Question however is who wins at this scam? Is it ok to call it a scam? Without blurting out precisely what damage, I can tell you there's a potential big damage by this type of theft. But who wins? We would lose. Who wins? What's the purpose of doing it? If we accept the ebay statement that it was a third party who, what, chose a couple of coins that we JUST listed in the last 48 hours and put them on a randomly selected name on ebay? For what purpose?

I realize I have an apology from "Judith" for any inconvenience but I'm not bonding with this for some reason. Have I become too cynical?

Tom, I'm not a computer whiz but many times I have wanted to save a picture on the net for reference and when I clicked on the picture---I wasn't able to do it.

Isn't there something you could do to protect your pictures from being hijacked? At least a watermark?

Just thinking outloud.

There's scripting that can be used in the html that prevents the right click features. It's pretty easy to defeat, though.

Thief gains control of an ebay account, lists your coins. Puts the paypal account of his choosing (his) in the listing for payment. Sells coin. Gets paid immediately with a Buy it Now. Takes the money and runs. He wins until paypal tracks him down electronically. I'm not even sure they bother on low dollar items, just pass the expense off in fees.

Seems nowadays , people can get "work from home" using other people's stuff. Thanks Judith at eBay for helping out ...and maybe notify the department of homeland security (DHS) with the hijacker's name and location. Do we have a domestic drone program ?
