    You'll have to wait for the experts to chime in... I just thought string since it seems a wire would remain in/on the coin?

    with enough mag you should be able to see if it's twisted (thread) or not (wire). cool!

    Nice piece.

    The impression looks fairly shallow, which to me indicates it was string and not wire

    Brilliant proofs are hard as hell to get a nice shot of like that

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    How much does a struck thru thread affect the grade? I have a 1942 proof lincoln struck thru thread in the field to the right of Lincoln's face. The coin is mint aside from the struck thru. Do they consider this a "scratch" when assigning their numerical grades? I'm not interested in parting ways. I am just curious as its in a OGH and the coin is superb, and graded PR65RD. And that is all I can find on the coin that would hinder the grade. So, I figured I'd ask now in an appropriate thread. Not to hijack...

    Looks like the ultra rare "extra long ear hair" specimen, of which only two are known. (you can't see the one coming out of his right ear)
