PayPal/Ebay question re: shipping to Europe

What are my requirements???

I just got an email requesting shipping costs to Germany for a $301 Ebay sale yesterday......ALL my auctions say that I ship to the USA only but I thought I would give this a try....

PP requires sig confirm over $250 but not available out of the country...I also did not see insurance as a listed option either....

Priority flat rate small box is #13.95
1st class is $9.95

But my main concern is not messing up the buyer's protection..PP answer computer person was useless...

I'm sure some of you ship overseas frequently....enlighten me

All of my auctions are USA only too , yet i regularly get bids from all over the world and would like to know how as if i try to bid after signing into ebay.uk it always tells me i can't because of shipping restrictions.
The ones i do ship i can usually get signature delivery , it costs a bit but it's worth it.

I think Jeremy handles out of country eBay sales.

ask him, or maybe Russ knows.

there is a setting in the auction to restrict bidders to "only bidders to countries which I ship."

Good luck on that one! I have had 2 overseas shipping experience and both of them were bad. No one guarantees delivery and I got stuck giving the money back and did not get the coin back both times. No more for me.

I use to ship all over and when I did I used USPS Parcel Post. Unless the PP has changed there
should be at their web site telling what form and all the coverage you have to use. It's just a
bit of a bother but if someone asks me to ship out of U S I would.

You can ship the coins International Express Mail. With theat service, you will get tracking and a signature confirmation. I sell all over the world, but if it is an expensive item I ship only Express outside the U.S.

Insure through a 3rd party insurer like shipsurance.com. No signature is needed. Make sure you declare the full value on the customs form. If the buyer claims it never arrived, file an insurance claim. If buyer claims SNAD, you're probably just as screwed as every other eBay seller scammed by a serial SNADder, with the exception of being able to cite that the buyer violated the terms of your auction by bidding.

I ship packages under $400 via First Class Mail with private insurance (Registered on request, Express only for $400+). To certain countries, I only go Express or Registered, but Germany isn't on that list. Express gives you really good tracking, but is pricey at $27.55 for a flat rate envelope. I've had a few recent problems with First Class, but I ship so many things overseas that the problems are still a very small fraction of what goes out. Germany tends to be a bit slow, though. One package just arrived after about 2 months. The buyer was honest, and resent his payment after receiving a refund from me.

In your shoes, I'd probably say Registered or Express, since both are handled more carefully, even though they come at a cost. Remember that for international Registered, you can use a simple bubble mailer with a strip of paper tape over the seal, as the requirements are less strict than for domestic shipments.

You could use that to void the transaction, but if you ship it, there's no way they'd let you use that excuse as a fall-back option. There is a way to block bidders from countries where you don't ship, though.

I've probably handled over 1,000 packages sent to/received from all continents (including Antarctica). I've only had one package not make it (one from Australia to me). I'm unlucky in love... maybe international shipping is my new relationship! image

If you have ship to USA only and bid went through, just ask for the USA shipping address and you'll be fine.
