Need help with Lincoln medal ID

I came across this Bronze Lincoln medal. The seller told me it was made after lincolns death and issued with the leather case. I found some similar that were recent mint issues but nothing from the earlier period. Photos are from my iphone, any help with id and value would be appreciated.

This design was first struck in 1886. Your example appears to have Morgan's signature on the base of Lincoln's bust, which may not have been added to the design until Morgan became chief engraver in 1917. It is highly probable that your example is a late emission(1920's) from the Mint. The pouch is a privately made piece which would not have been sold by the Mint.

This is a recent U.S. Mint product, but may be earlier.

They are still selling that medal at the US Mint today. I picked one up of the 3" medals from the US Mint booth at the Sacramento ANA this Spring.

$42 for the 3" Medal
$5.50 for the 1 5/16" Medal

The older medals have a different finish, more of a mahogany.

With yours it is difficult to determine from the photos.

I would say a more recent piece exposed to some environmental effects.

Its kinda silly for an official mint to do this , i was caught out with a similar medal bearing Washington , a peacemedal. There was no way of knowing if it's genuine or not as in this case apparantly. It's in Scotland now in a 7 year olds "collection".

And the seller didnt lie either , it was indeed made some time after Lincolns death.

I didn't buy it......yet. It sure looks old but you guys got me confused now..lol easy to do. It was in a glass display box and when he took it out it was HOT from the sun. What's the difference between the modern issue and the original? Diagnostics needed?

He said the purse was issued with the medal and was original. It sure looked like it as it fit in the holder very nice. 3" yes.
Why would the mint issue an exact replica? Competing with Carr?

I am no expert on the packaging for the original medals, but that case does not seem to fit for me.

Do you have a picture of the other side of the case?

Another question, does the seller seem to have a knowledge of US medals in general?

I asked that very question a few years back here only mine was a Washington Peace Medal , sure enough the US mint was selling them for a few dollars.

In the mints defense, they did change the finish of the more contemporary medals.
