I would stick that Ryan in the freezer, try to get that gum off clean. Did the gum bleed through to the surface at all? That has fantastic centering for that card.

I put that card in the freezer with my other gum cards. I tried peeling the gum off the common gum cards, and both times it resulted in paper loss. I became too afraid to try it on the Ryan. There doesn't appear to be any bleed.
Unfortunately, because of the different paper stock OPC used and maybe even the gum which is also different and more adhesive than the gum Topps used in those same years, the freezer trick will not work for the OPC issues.

I've opened a ton of 79 OPC and sometimes the freezer trick will work on them.

You are extremely lucky then. Every time I've tried it (and I've opened up quite a few 70s OPC packs, although primarily 75-78), the gum will take a piece of paper with it.
Topps, on the other hand, uses thinner gum that is more powdery and less likely to adhere to the paper stock, if stored properly.

Grote, about 50/50 on the 79's haven't had any luck on previous years
I've opened very few 79 OPC wax packs, and just assumed the gum problem would be as bad as it is for the 78s, but it sounds like maybe it's actually a bit different, then. Thanks for the info! And hopefully Shooty can get that gum off the Ryan card but it sounds like the test cases haven't gone that well so far, so it doesn't sound good, unfortunately.

Rose, Unser and maybe Carter. Rose should 8, Unser is a strong 8 chance at 9 and Carter should 8.
If anyone has any of these cards in 8 or better condition please PM me. The're the last cards I need to wrap up my 77 OPC graded set.

<< <i>The highlights of my 3 packs of 77 OPC. The first pack I opened started, Checklist, Brett RB, Carlton, and Rose. It was downhill from there.
are that Rose and Seaver going in for a PSA jackets?
i also love the Carter and Tony Perez from this set as they are completely different pics from their Topps counterpart.
