Credit card fraud alert.

Back in January I had a sale and just found out now that the card was stolen!
You would think that they could alert me a bit quicker!
If these coins show up, I'd appreciate a heads-up.

<< <i>Rick, wouldn't that be the credit companies problem now? >>
If only that were so. In a face to face card swipe transaction, maybe. On an eCommerce sale, no.

Why did it take 2 months for them to figure this out?
Could it possibly be buyer's remorse?

I usually check my account online daily or every other day, so I would have caught it soon.
Use of the card was immediatly suspended, got email alerts and a phone call.
It took me a week to make sure the wife or children didn't use the card to make an internet order.... yhey didn't, it was fraud..
I don't know how they do it either but am glad they can.
Good luck and hope you don't end up with the short straw.

If he tried to peddle them, it may have been at The Coin Shop/Space Coast Coin Supply, which would be within walking distance of his house. The owner is a long time officer of FUN, Gary Overton.
<< <i>B of A is good. They caught 2 charges on the same day they were made, one for $89.99 and one for $3.49.

Then again they blocked a PayPal transaction I made from home because they said it came from a laptop [which it did not]. I had to call and get the account unblocked.

I do like to talk to new customers (as well as returning ones), but sometimes orders are taken and coins shipped. Our merchant service company said that we can have them check out any new CC orders. Takes a few minutes and is done for no extra charge.
You should have both AVS, (address verification system), and CCV, (credit card verification - the 3 digits on the back), enabled in your terminal and/or shopping cart and set to reject any order that doesn't pass both.

<< <i>We need to stop this type of stuff! >>
As a merchant accepting CC orders, you probably have all the info you need to either use a customer's card or sell the info to someone who could. I doubt that there is anything stopping you [not meant to be punitive btw] other than your personal honesty. I think things like this can be a real issue if multiple employees can access the info. A number of months back my wife ordered some pet meds from a place in Australia and a couple weeks after that someone out of the country had used my card info to buy a membership into a sex related club. They [and not B of A ] credited the charges back.
<< <i>PS: It isn't unsual at all for these things to sometimes take a couple months. The actual card holder may not have looked closely at their statements until recently.

My first thought was "January, and they are just getting to it" but then I thought it might not get on to that statement, so it goes on the February statement which came out sometime in March, sat in the fellows house until he looked at it..... understandable.

When I responded with payment instructions (i.e., checks or money orders only, no credit cards), he said he "would have to think about it".

surprise surprise.
a mail box store.
<< <i>When you accept a credit card, don't you verify that the address of the card owner and where your shipping it are the same? The compnaies I deal with all do that. >>
As someone pointed out in this thread or a similar thread the crooks will call the credit card company and change their address. I'm not sure what mail order merchants that accept credit card payments can do to protect themselves.
