Changes to the Bear Estate Collection
As with any collection,It is time to drop a few I do not care for and add a number of other
coins that I like a lot. Even so called experienced collectors have minds that are occasionally
out to lunch. All changes should be made in a few day's time.
Some changes are in fact due
to the recommendations of various Forum Members and I am most appreciative for their advice..
However I warn you, there will be a large increase in key date W.L. Halves among other series.
I am trying to look out ten years into the future and these common dates do not seem the most
appropriate means of appreciation.

Other then those three coins, no WL. Halves are being sold.
In fact, their numbers are being more then doubled.

Perhaps the 1960 small and large date.
Which of those two varieties do you like the best for future climbs in value?

Bear,
Please make sure to offer the forum members first dibs on coins you decide to "shift focus from". You are right on these 3, they aren't extremely rare, nor were they among your better looking ones either, IMHO.
But you have some really choice items there, so at least take offers from the board before you sell elsewhere
for some time. Only the three losers are gone,
as with a puff of smoke, in a stiff breeze.

<< <i>Only the three losers are gone, >>
Bear, don't call those 3 coins losers! For many they would be a prized possession!
Just say, "those 3 not up the standard of the collection". That's more fair for 3 4-figure coins, which is nothing to sneeze at for 95% of the forum!
rather nice coins for all that.

BTW, I like the Trade Dollar you added. Glad you got one of those for the collection, they are beautiful coins!
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
<< <i>Where do we view these coins?

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
If one lookes at a number of dates on the PCGS Price chart, there are a number od staggering
increases in the 66+ and 67 grades, of which I own a great number of them. Remember, even
if a coin has the grade, it must have a pleasing luster, color and the notorious right field, must
be free of frost breaks and marks. Many of the high grades seem to be of lower quality for that
grade. The really top quality, that will stand up under scrutiny, are far and few between. They
will only get more scarce as time goes on. If you do not like the series, or believe that they are
plentiful and easy to come by, then I will leave you in peace with your beliefs.
I am not here to change any ones opinion, on anything. I am only here to tell you ,what I believe.
It is up to each of you, individually, to take what jnformation you wish and run with it.

Thus I will leave the major type in one section and the Walkers in another section. You will
not have to look at one to see the other. Many collectors have sub collections, why shouldn't
I do the same thing.

<< <i> W.L. Halves in MS-66+, MS-67 and MS-67+ in the rare dates are not, I repeat, not easy to find >>
An obvious truism if you are speaking of “rare dates” since any coin that is rare would, by definition, not be easy to find, especially in superb gem. Of course one needs to define “rare dates.” When someone says “rare dates” in the Walker series 19-D and 21 P,D,S come to mind. Early branch mint coins tend to be scarce in 65 let alone higher grade. Some of those coins top out at 66 I believe, though I might be wrong about that.
But then how does this follow?
<< <i>If one lookes at a number of dates on the PCGS Price chart, there are a number od staggering increases in the 88+ [sic, I think you mean 66+] and 67 grades, of which I own a great number of them. >>
Staggering increases? Of those grades in the rare dates? And you own a great number? How can that be?
And even if you are alluding to the late dates rather than the rare dates, where did the “staggering” increases in pops come from? If a lot of new coins are being made from roll holdings, cross-overs and upgrades, what does that portend for the future pops? And if the pops are growing what does that portent for future prices?
<< <i> Remember, even if a coin has the grade, it must have a pleasing luster, color and the notorious right field, must be free of frost breaks and marks. Many of the high grades seem to be of lower quality for that grade. >>
In that case won’t the quality coins at the given grades eventually upgrade, further growing the top pop levels and depressing prices at the top pop and undergrades?
<< <i> The really top quality, that will stand up under scrutiny, are far and few between. They will only get more scarce as time goes on. >>
I don’t understand why you conclude that they will get “more scarce” if you are seeing “staggering increases” in pops. The top quality will just gradeflate into higher grade holders, such a plus grade holders. Which seems to make it risky right now to pay big premiums for plus grades where there is a significant pop in the base grade, since there is no way of knowing how many new pluses will be made.
<< <i>If you do not like the series, or believe that they are plentiful and easy to come by, then I will leave you in peace with your beliefs. >>
One need not dislike the series or believe that superb gems are easy to come by in order to question what force will drive prices upward. Walkers have been a very popular series for many years. But what is going to cause everyone to drop what they are doing and run to buy high grade Walkers?
<< <i>I am not here to change any ones opinion, on anything. I am only here to tell you ,what I believe. >>
And you have every right in the world to do so.
<< <i>It is up to each of you, individually, to take what jnformation you wish and run with it. >>
I just did.

interrogation, by the Forum District attorney. Let us leave it as this,
everyone believe what you will and allow me to believe what I will.
if anyone is in the wrong, then time will be the judge of who that is.
If some wish to present a position as to what is rare and what is
not, I have no problem with that. If some may choose to disagree
with me, I have no problem with that. If some wish to believe
that Walkers are for the most part widgets, I have no problem
with that. Remember, this is just my own opinion. No one at all
has to agree with anything I am saying and I have no problem
with that either. If you do not like walkers and would rather collect
copper, or 18trh century coinage, I have no problem with that either.

I could be wrong, CG, but I read this statement by Bear to mean an increase in price rather than population. Again, I could be wrong in this conclusion.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Have you never hear of an 88+ grade. I guess I am just
moving ahead too fast, on the 100 point grading scale.

Bear, this is an *Estate collection*.
Check out the other famous estates and the MEGA number of duplicate coins they had
You may be right about that. I may have been confused by the first sentence that seemed to address scarcity in rare dates, rather than price.
But I still do not understand Bear's post since I cannot tell whether he is talking about rare dates only or also late dates.

Just as soon as I find some nice ones to buy. I have always loved
the artistic beauty of these coins and would expect to have 3-4 in
the collection before I am through.
